View Full Version : I missed the game... what'd I miss?

Besides the obvious stuff (poor Suns defense, Kobe shooting very well), what did I miss? Give me some not-so-obvious stuff that I wouldn't have seen on the highlights. What role players played unexpectedly well, and was it fluky or a matchup problem? What will the Suns most likely do to adjust? Etc etc.

The shattering of the Suns confidence. Series over.

Shannon Brown practicing for the dunk contest. On J-Rich nonetheless.

Too bad the dunk didn't go in.

Dragic played well.

LO had 19/19.

Kobe had 21 in the 3 Q.

Shannon Brown almost had the dunk of the fucking year on JRich. Just missed it though.

Frye was the worst player on the floor.

All Suns role players sans Dragic and Barbie played HORRIBLE.

They will play much better at home.

The way Kobe treated Dudley, I wouldn't be surprised if he got to the postgame press conference and started snitching on Shaq.

Doug Collins predicted the Suns would go to a zone defense in game 2. You know when teams break out the zone defense they are done because they know they can't guard the other team.

That was easily the biggest and most influencing factor of the game.. and then Frye playing like Bonner.

Odom exposed the Suns' interior defense. It is shocking how slow and soft they are defensively, especially Amar'e. Odom drove it to the hoop again and again and just owned the glass.

Lopez looked surprisingly spry and Suns fans should be very encouraged by this.

Suns had no answers for Kobe but to be fair when he is hitting like that from all over the floor no one is going to check him. Hill had some tough luck fouls called against him that took away Phx' best option at slowing him down. It was all downhill from there.

Fisher played a smart game defensively. Nash had a lot of dimes but Fisher disrupted a lot of plays... a kick ball here, a hand up on a pass there... Suns never quite looked comfortable from the 5-minute mark of the 1st quarter on.

I'd anticipate the Suns going to a zone defense, daring the Lakers to continue to hit outside shots. That would be a very wise adjustment IMO, even though Kobe and Fisher have been hitting their shots. Artest has not.

Suns played a fronting defense on Gasol/Bynum and even Odom. That left them exposed time and again on the boards. LA guards to their credit did not try to force passes over the fronting. They just picked the Suns apart with penetration and that opened up things for the bigs.

23 is indeed > 21

And your argument about fouls doesn't even hold water

Suns 23 fouls
Lakers 21 fouls

What does this prove other than one team shot jumpers all night and the other team took the ball to the basket?

Yup, total b.s... if this game had been called the right way Hill would have had numerous stops on Kobe (and steals) it could have been close

I hate it when people bitch about the "#'s" as if the everything must be equal for it to be fair.

If the officials let Grant Hill play defense, I highly doubt Kobe goes 13-23, he probably more likely goes for his standard 8-23

The most shocking aspect of this game was how the refs totally disrespected, gutted, filleted, mocked, and ultimately removed Grant Hill from being a factor in the game against Bryant defensively

Whatever.

If one team is playing physical ball hawking, face pounding defense and the other is basically playing matador, "oops I fouled you, so sorry" defense there will be a disparity at the end of the game.

Hill had a couple steals and clean stops at the very least that were called fouls. That's not even mentioning the basket they took away from him in teh 1st quarter for the phantom elbow to Fisher..

I'd say all the b.s shit they called cost the suns at least 10 points. Still not enough to win the game but all those freebies got the lakers juices and momentum going.. so figure a 16-18 point swing total thx to refs.

Add those points to the suns total and suddenly this game is only a basket or two difference

You both know damn well the refs had everything to do with 90% of Hill's struggles tonight.

I wonder how much $$$$$$ Scott Foster raked in tonight on the lakers who were 6.5 pt favorites and won by 21

hh, just like clockwork, emboldened by the officiating, arrogant laker fans start coming out like little worms in the dead of night to run their smack after the refs just sucked off their team.

Refs aren't dumb, they've zeroed in on Grant Hill as the one player that can stop Kobe and give the suns the momentum in this series... and they aren't about to let that happen

You'd think Grant Hill was the most hated man in the league by the way the refs are calling this

lol Hill getting disrespected on the offensive end now too

Grant Hill getting the rookie treatment by the refs..

He's another one that's so protective about MJ legacy.

Excellent point, Luva.

And he's a sneaky little shit. He turns down every coaching job he's offered, but, opens his fuckin' mouth tonite to help advise & coach the Suns. Get a job, ya fuck, you.

Thanks for all the info guys. Had a few high ranking officers with some troubles, so I had to go in... gotta love being on-call!

Should be interesting to see if Suns go zone, and whether or not Grant Hill doesn't get jobbed, from the sound of it.

And if Kobe can keep up this terrific pace.

Yeah, there is a universal principle at work when it comes to national announcers... and that is all national color guys will get flak from both teams' fans convinced he's biased against their guys.

Which just proves that though 2 people may hear the same words uttered, people are going to hear what they want to hear.

Id say this is pretty spot on except for the "tough luck" calls on Hill. Throw in Dudley there too. Didnt really cost them the game but there were probably five calls in the fist half that were asinine. The one to start off the second half where Hill knocked the ball away and was called for a foul was the worst, though.

At least Hill tried. Can't really say the same about Amare. He decided it was better to give up uncontested dunks and jump shots rather than get into foul trouble.

Im not sure what plan the Suns have but I hope Gentry's got something cooking.
