I'm so sick and tired of hearing about the Lakers length.

If Splitter comes over, the Spurs can go (almost) toe to toe with them.

Bynum and Gasol are clearly 7-1 (despite their 7-0 listings), but still, at 6-11 apiece, Duncan and Splitter would be able to single cover them. McDyess can't stay with Odom off the dribble, but at 6-9 to 6-10, size-wise the Spurs would be fine there too. Maybe Splitter would play more against Odom and McDyess against Gasol, because Splitter would have a better chance to stay with Odom off the dribble and McDyess is a solid post defender (though he'd give up size to Gasol). But, in general the Spurs would be able to stack up to them as well as anyone in the West, along with the (healthy) Trail Blazers.

Splitter is excellent at at being able to show the pick n roll and recover back to his man. He also has the quickness to stay with most guards in the league on switches. One of the things that killed the Spurs in the Suns' series He is an ideal match up for big men that can face up like Stoudemire and Gasol. All of these things that Duncan was able to do in his prime.

But I have watched some of his games, and a big concern for me is that Splitter tends to check out mentally when he is matched up with more physical bigmen. The last thing the Spurs need in the last few years of Duncan's career is a bigman with questionable mental toughness.

The last time the Spurs played the Lakers, POP made an adjustment by putting RJ on Odom. Sure, you're going to give away some length to LO, but RJ was quicker and has enough strength to bother. I agree, if we don't convince Splitter to come over, we need to draft a big to handle the Lakers' frontline

That's why Blair is never going to be a reliable starter. Just not tall enough and I doubt he could change over to PF since he's spent his whole life under the basket.

I like the kid and hope he does well, but I wouldn't be devastated if we traded him to someone if we got something good because of his surprising good rookie year.

Jefferson on Odom is something that can work or can be gotten away with for stretches, but they're not beating the Lakers in a playoff series if their best/closing lineup against them features Jefferson at PF.

No big that the Spurs could draft would help with dealing with the Lakers front line next season. Even an "older" (draft wise, at least) big like Alabi, he's still a raw player who can't be counted on going into a playoff series against them. It has to be Splitter, because of his length and mobility. I don't see a similar big that the Spurs could realistically acquire that could step right in and contribute against the Lakers. Basically, any chance that the Spurs have at winning a fifth championship is riding on his decision to sign this summer.
