So what do you think? My girlfriend likes the shows start over feature but only a few stations used it as far as I can see.

One thing I really hate is the new on demand set up, I have showtime on demand and sometimes the movies with "busty" in the title grab my attention so I check it out but now when I stop it, it stays in the on demand in progress and I cant erase it. i have 2 small girls who also watch Showtime on demand for the kids movies and they will see the other movie I was curious to check out, My girlfriend dose not care but still.

Also the whole thing seems to move slower and shows I recorded don't seem to fast forward or rewind as fast and I didn't see the skip to the end option on stuff I recorded.

I got it, havent really played with it. How do you screen shot your tv and put it on the computer?

I got that off google but it looks like they just got a digital cam and took a pic of the tv.

It seems to have trouble discerning premiere shows from reruns, at least from the recording settings that carried over from the last software.

They tried to copy the fast forward method that skips back a little when you stop it like U-verse does, but it doesn't work as well. They also took out the fastest ff setting and the skip to end option. :td

I will be honest, it just looks like a new skin. I don't see much beyond what has already been mentioned with regards to functionality. Though someone mentioned "start over" and this has been a part of TWC service for a pretty long time. The fast forward thing (where it backs up a second when you hit play) will be quite welcome. I have been jealous of this feature on my cousin's DirecTV for a few years now. I don't, however, think that anything I have seen is any reason to cheer about. Big Deal.

It's slow loading the channels for me.

:lol You struck a nerve. Mine was updated about three weeks ago. I've noted all of the above concerns.

It's slower. There is a delay when you first pull up any menu or guide that allows for the "fade" effect that is more of a nuisance than a novelty.

Scrolling through channels / pages is slower.

In the Guide, you can't go back beyond the last show that finished airing.

The 4x RW/FF functions have been removed.

The new "skip-back" feature when FFing is more of a curse then a blessing (how hard is it to stop when you want to stop?), and is downright annoying when trying to RW.

Lots of shows which are being re-aired show up as New.

Shows automatically start recording when you press REC, so you have to delve into show settings to change times or other recording options.

Recording Series has been completely separated from recording shows, and the aforementioned problem also applies. If you start REC a series, you have to go in and tell the box specifically to only do New episodes only, otherwise it defaults to All runs.

And on top of that, it still does that crap where it lags/skips when its trying to playback and record at the same time.

Some upgrade, Time Warner. I know people usually don't like change, so I've tried to give it some time, but this new software sucks.

I use it because I really love Roadrunner. I have the elite or whatever and it's ridiculously fast. Plus I can scream at them and talk them into giving me discounts.

- Scrolling seems slower and not as smooth.
- FF only has a 3x option, not 4x, and speeding through stuff sucks now.
- Pause and Play seem to recognize commercials and segment starts rather than the EXACT part I paused at, really annoying.
- I lost a few channels to the Variety Service, I guess I got them for free before the update?
- Overall, it seems more complicated than convenient.

But hey, it looks nice!

Wow, it's slower? That's insane! The old interface was so incredibly slow and painful when I'd use TWC at my parents house. I couldn't imagine an upgrade leading to it being even slower. What a crappy joke for y'all.

On a side note, my u-verse upgraded to the 3HD streams within the past few days... that's a plus :)

They billed me for at least a year after I gave them the boot and I didn't owe them money. The only thing that I like about them was you could restart the program but DVR kinda takes care of that.

I got the new cisco box and remote and I love it and cant wait until the samsung box comes out because it was messing up when it gave to us employess, the old navigator sucked they updated ours in march so were use to it already I know they messed up on the DVR a bit but I think the On Demand channels are easier to access and accessing the other channels if its running slow give us a call and well get someone out there to take a look at it

This is actually true from what I can tell, it used to take forever to load the the HD Showcase and alike, but it does work a little faster. But overall though there's seems to be a lack of responsiveness between the remote and info on screen, and the pausing/ff/rew is fucked.

Could you tell me if it's just my imagination, or does the DVR now delete stuff on its own if there isn't enough space? I noticed it now describes how/who deleted recordings and sometimes "user" isn't the responsible party. o.O

Mixability
05-20-2010, 03:43 PM
yeah laggy....

but i do like the ability to tell it when setting up a show, it'll let you setup start record 5 min earlier and stop record 5 min later. the last software would always cut off the "after" parts of parks and recreation and the office, even after i reset it manually and also deleted the recording and re did it.

i only set it up so far on this new update, who knows if it'll work right.

If you hold down the FF or Rew buttons for a couple of secs, it will process the command at a clip of about 15min. I wanted to get to the end of a 1hr program & got there in apprx 10secs or so.

New HD DVR boxes hold apprx 100 hrs of HD content, ehh, not too bad I guess.

try resetting the box. it's probably likely you got a refurbished or used box. maybe turned in an hour before you picked it up. who knows. that may fix that up, unless youve joined www.icantstandthisnavigatorcraptalk.com and confirmed this as a widely known problem.

The tech that came out fixed that issue ( i wasnt home so I dont know what he did), and the Public Access Channel thing was a headend\TW side issue after I kept telling the bitches that it was... Thanks TW for treating me like livestock.... lol

Scientific Atlanta hires the worst programmers on the planet. So many bugs, so many failed boxes, and even returned boxes only to get another broken one with some other failed feature. The new hud pointlessly removes lots of features and also adds INFURIATING new ones, such as automatically rewinding when you press play after fast forwarding.

They must have the cheapest contract of all the DVR companies which is all TW cares about. It's because their product fucking sucks ass.

Well my living room box switch yesterday, First major thing I notice is the volume. My ps3/xbox/old firmware cable box all sound fine when my tv volume was around 15. Now the cable box is pushing 30-35 more than half of what my tv does, so when I switch to Xbox/PS3 they scare the shit outta me with the loud sound because I'm not used to lowering it before I play.

Seriously someone needs to explain this to me because either this thing is fucking retarded or I am (certainly possible).

It used to be that say I was watching Seinfeld on channel 11, and I pressed the info button and then the right button so see what was coming on next I could see what was coming on at 6:30, and 7:00 and so on and so forth. If I saw Hells Kitchen was coming on at 7:00 I'd simply press record, and then A to accept that recording and then at 7:00 it would record Hells Kitchen.

Now when I do the same thing it records what's currently on. The only way I've been able to find to record things in the future is to search for the show, which is obviously a lot more time consuming and cumbersome than the previous method.

What am I missing here?

It looks nicer, but the functionality sucks.

Page up/down fast and the show titles disappear. Highest level of fwd/rew is 3. When you stop fast forwarding, it skips back several seconds. Some buttons on my remote no longer work, for example "Video Source" doesn't do jack squat any more.

Why did they do this? It's not like anyone even had a choice. You just turned on the tube one day and it was all changed.

Just a update, Out of my 2 cable boxes one of them is doing allot better than the other, For starters I can now rwd/fwd @ 4x

Also the box that also has 4x speed has a new option. If I hit setting on the remote and scroll right to "display" there is a new option called "DVR Compensation" it's set to normal, I set it to "none" and now when I rwd/fwd it stop right where I press play at. :downspin: hell yea no more annoying stopping a bit before or after like my other dvr does.

Just a heads up. I hated the pressing play and it started in a commercial still.
