A friend of mine crunched the following data on the draft lottery, going back to 1985:

-Minnesota is the biggest lottery loser ever. In the lottery 14 times, never moved up. Lost a cumulative total of 14 spaces in the lottery (average of one space per draft).

-Other teams which have never moved up in the lottery:
Cleveland (12 lotteries, 7 slots lost), Dallas (11,6) (four rings, b*tches!), Denver(10,10),Boston (9,5), Miami (8,10), Detroit (6,2), Charlotte Bobcats (5,3), New Orleans (4,2), Utah (3,2), and the Los Angeles Lakers (2,0).

-The second biggest overall loser of slots is Golden State, 20 lotteries/11 slots lost. But in some years they also gained slots.

-The biggest winner on terms of cumulative slots is Charlotte Hornets, who in 7 lotteries gained 16 slots, for an average jump of 2.286 slots each time they were in the lottery. :wow

-The other big winner: the Spurs. Worst lottery performance was to move up 1 slot, and averages a move up of 2 slots/year in only three lotteries.

(Yeah, around here Sean Elliott is known as "the sucky lottery pick".)

-Other big winners are Philadelphia (12 slots gained in 12 lotteries),
Seattle (12,10), and Orlando (10,10).
