They just said on ESPN that Oswalt asked the Astros to trade him last night. They didn't report anything about the Rangers, but it makes sense.

I'm really hoping to the Rangers. He can stay in Texas and still be near his farm.

I don't know if you've heard, but, the Rangers are for real. With another solid started, like Oswalt, the Rangers will be real dangerous.

Is that the same Ranger franchise that hasn't been to the playoffs in like 10 years and has 1 all-time playoff win?

Oh God, don't tell me 4 rings faggot has made its way to the baseball forum.
What do the Astros have over the Rangers though?
1 World Series appearance faggot? idk

Neither have anything to brag about. Astros made the World Series, once. Yes. They also got swept. Rangers have no playoffs to brag about as well.
Neither have any championship rings. That's what counts.
No history to speak of from either organization. What's to talk about is now. What's the future holds for each organization. Astros suck. Farm system is even worse. Rangers are strong. End of story. With a few holes filled a very dangerous ball club come October. Not to mention, Rangers have a very deep farm system.

Please god make this happen!
Starting Rotation:
Oswalt
CJ. Wilson
Harden
Lewis
Feldman/Holland
Not to shabby at all
Oswalt would look good in blue and white, the only question is, what would we have to give up to get him.

Rangers are going to the playoffs this year. If Oswalt wants to win, he could do far worse. Anyone who says he won't win w/ the Rangers obviously isn't paying attention, son.

What's his contract situation? Surely he makes far too much money for the Rangers to get this done anytime before the sale goes through, and who knows when that would be. This is the same club that can't sign it's first round pick and couldn't give a measly 3 yr 15 mil to keep a productive Byrd.
The White Sox said (according to ESPN radio yesterday) that the rangers contacted them about AJ Pyrzinski or however it's spelled, but even he makes too much money for this thing to go through before the sale does. The only one that makes sense is a cheap guy like Barajas.

He makes 15 a year through next year I think. Think this way, Rangers are in debt, but, you win.. You make money. I read the three biggest options are Texas, Atlanta or even in division to St Louis.

The Rangers farm system is deep. I'll take some of those minor leaguers for Oswalt. He is nowhere near the dominant pitcher of a few years ago. The Rangers can have him and fat Carlos Lee.

I'm a Rangers fan, but I will not believe they are going anywhere until they do. There's been too many Aug/Sep collapses to believe otherwise. They'll probably finish the season in 3rd place again...

Fuck that! We already had that plague on our team.

I agree, but I am more optimistic this year because I think we actually are the most talented team in the West. Plus our division is the weakest its been in awhile.
The only team I'm worried about passing us is the Angels. But we're 11-3 against them the last 2 seasons, and they just don't seem like the same team this year.
Oakland just doesn't have the talent to keep it up over the course of the season IMO
and then there's Seattle :lol

Any chance that the Rangers would give up any of their top prospects?

The only way they would do that is if the Astros ate a significant portion of this season's salary for Oswalt, due to the financial handcuffs due to Tom fucking Hicks not being able to handle his business. Of course, once the team is officially sold, that could change but it may still be weeks before this happened. I mean, on April 30th, Selig said an "expeditious" end would come to the sale proceedings. Three weeks later, I am wondering if I have always had the wrong definition of the word.
The Astros eating some salary is the only way I can see it happening, and McLane for some insane reason sees the Rangers as a rival, so I am sure he will try and bend the Rangers over. Which is why I don't see a trade ever getting done. But if McLane is smart, he will try to be reasonable, because he could help rebuild what is an otherwise fairly barren farm by getting some prime Rangers prospects.

I just looked at Oswalt's stats this season. He's got a 2.66 ERA and every start this year has been a quality start. yet he's got a 2-6 record to show for it :lol I'd be demanding a trade too if I gave th team great pitching every time out and they couldn't help me out for dick.
Yeah. I think they should trade Oswalt, Berkman, and Lee...But of course that fatass slob has a no trade clause, I think Berkman might fetch the most return if Oswalt isn't traded to the Rangers

He finally admitted today that it is time to rebuild, because he NEVER wanted to rebuild, he would just sign garbage scraps like Mike Hampton, Russ Ortiz, Woody "fucking" Williams. Let the rebuilding commence!

The writing was on the wall to start rebuilding 3 years ago. McLane's ego didn't allow it and stubbornly tried to patch things up with have beens.
Poor assessment by ownership and now it's going to take longer to have a competitive team again.

Oswaly is declining and declining fast. He has the same old fastball and curve and is loosing both of them slowly. His pitching style has worn him down and he wont be affective for much longer.
Be a good move for the rangers if they can get him for scrubs but i wouldn't give any promising prospects away for Roy O. I have always loved Roy and been a big time Astros fan and don't blame him for wanting out, but there are much better options out there.

:lol
like who??
Oswalt will be good for another 2 to three years and is light years better than anything they have in the rotation.
Right now the rotation is mediocre at best. Rich Harden has been the Rich Harden he was in Chicago and Oakland, overrated over hyped all based on "stuff" Hes a more talented version of Brett Tomko. Colby Lewis is OK but, come on can't be relied on for a whole season. CJ Wilson is a converted reliever and is now coming back to the pack as evidenced lately. Holland is really young and Feldman stinks.
The Rangers need 1 MAYBE 2 good solid inning eating starters to have a shot a the division.
Also wouldn't hurt to add a second lefty to the bully. The bullpen with two good leftys Ray Feliz Francisco and O'Day would be a damn good one.
Right now, the Rangers need 1 more solid hitter, two starters and a left reliever before I can get 100% confident in the postseason.

I didn't say he wouldn't be a good pickup for the right price, but this guy isn't going to make the franchise turn any corners. All im saying is I wouldn't give away any top prospects for him. He honestly is a pretty mediocre pitcher right now and its early in the year. Other options will become available if the Astros asking price is to high.

• An official from another team said word going around is that Roy Oswalt would approve a trade only to the Phillies, Yankees or Cardinals.

Yeah I didn't see them trading Smoak and I don't think they wanted to either as they kept offering Davis. They eventually gave up.
Honestly trading a prospect like Smoak will only make sense if you give Lee an extension.
Period.
