CosmicCowboy
05-22-2010, 10:32 AM
You are right. For trophy trout fillets...

Marinade:
one can frozen margarita mix (thawed but not diluted)
one handful diced fresh basil
one handful diced fresh mint

mix well and marinate fillets for one hour

grill on cedar planks.

I'll be headed to the coast in June so I'll be taking the saltwater and I already have plenty of pics of big freshwater redfish caught this year and I usually go twice a month.

if yall want to do it that way we can. Let's keep it native texas fish, though.

saltwater:
biggest trout

freshwater:

i've always heard the guadalupe was nice, personally i prefer river fishing to lakes any day. you do any fly fishing for trout there? my favorite place to go used to be up in oklahoma though. the blue river, it was one of the only free flowing natural rivers left in this part of the us. then they started drilling on the aquifer and from what i've heard it hasn't been the same. ever heard of that place?

thispego
05-22-2010, 03:57 PM
nah i suck at fly fishing. it's too involved, i like to be able to drink a beer and fish at the same time. never heard of this place called oklahoma, no.

Mavs_man_41
05-22-2010, 04:01 PM
I don't fly fish either. I'd have to get my grandpa to teach me and it takes tons of practice. But as far as catching smallmouth and trout, I think it's the best way to go.

and crofl oklahoma sucks but it's great for fishing. easy to get lost up in the mountains on those dirt logging roads though.

does shooting a fish count? im thinking about going alligator gar hunting.

imo, biggest trashfish would be a nice award too. im thinking hardhead, sheepshead, perch, etc. snook are also making their way back into texas. theyve been seen around port A lately.

would red snapper be considered offshore, inshore, or medium shore?

using non-artificial bait is cheating.

Thispego's dad was really impressed by the extent of pego's improvement in his fishing capabilities. And that was already like three years ago. Even creil was like "yeah he's really good at being a fisherman. He's quite the fisherman."

Far cry from back in the late 90's when he would sit around in the lake all day hoping for a nibble and would settle for a 1 foot gar and end up eating it. And if he bbq'ed some gar and you left some meat on the bones? He got really really mad.

Not necessarily true...

If you can bleed a bonita rather quickly after catching it and proceed to prepare it within a reasonable time, it isn't at all that bad and is really almost akin to eatin king mackeral or even some lesser tunas. We had the chef on a 4-day trip prepare some dishes with bonita (i'm guessing it was with an Italian-dressing based sauce, or a vinagrette...) and it was good eating.

Pound for pound though, they're pretty fun fish to catch and if you're not going to consume them, catfish bait as well.

Haven't caught a bass since the Spurs went fishing.

I'd be in this if there was any good LMB fishing near San Antonio. All the poor people down here take home illegal bass and pretty much every body of water is over-fished and has hard pressure from it. Then the NW side of town has like no water and you have to drive 30 minutes just to fish a pond.

The bass fishing was really good down here when it was still early-mid spring. Now the hydrilla is like 20 feet long and all the still water is carpeted. San Antonio river might be good this time of year cause of that, hmm.....
