Favors has the elite size + strength + quickness + athleticism combination. Often compared to a guy like Amare Stoudemire from a physical standpoint.

He wasn't as dominant as expected in college, but if you saw any Georgia Tech games, there were a couple of factors you have to realize. 1) Ga Tech guards were horrible with getting the ball down low consistently, and when they tried they'd turn the ball over at a ridiculous rate. They needed a solid point guard for Favors to put up better numbers. 2) Favors played next to Gani Lawal, who might be the biggest blackhole on offense for a front court player in the entire game of college basketball. The kid is a like a 6-8 post version of JR Smith when it comes to shot selection.

So while Favors probably did disappoint statistically this past year, you have to look at his team and teammates to understand at least some of the reasons were out of his control. And you have to also understand that the NBA draft for the past decade has become more and more about potential and measurements and athletic ability than it has been about actual production.

thanks jam, very informative :toast

By the way how do you compare him with cousins? .. i saw some tape of this cousins kid and besides some lack of effort and some jrsmith like play (kid was trying to show he has a mid range j .. but at his size in the college game that's simply unjustified.) he can pan out very interesting. You don't get such size, coordination, strength &frame and range .. plus he put up insane stats in very little time.

Only saw one game of him but was extremely impressed. Awesome combination of length+athleticism+quickness+defensive intensity+awareness. Should become a defensive force in the NBA as soon as he acquires a little experience and reputation. A guy to build a great defensive squad around.

He has excellent measurements. Superb physical specimen, Dwight Howard lite.

I personally haven't been really huge on DeMarcus Cousins like some have. But there's no question about the fact that he just simply dominated college basketball. He's got great size and actually pretty good touch for a big man because he has big and soft hands. The question will always be for dominant college big men who don't have elite athleticism. How will that translate when they consistently play against guys just as big and just as strong and sometimes much more quick and athletic. How he does adjust will probably determine how good he can be at the next level. But players can overcome those concerns. You look at a guy like Carlos Boozer and immediately you see that a prospect with issues of athleticism and quickness can be overcome and that young player can end up being a pretty productive player in the NBA.

As for comparing him to Favors, Cousins could probably step in right now and be a much more productive NBA player as a rookie. Favors has a lot of that dreaded "potential" attached to his game. But Cousins does look like he has a much lower ceiling while Favors looks like he has superstar potential if it is ever reached. For me, I like Favors more because of that. But that's not to say Favors will automatically end up becoming the better player. I think it also depends on the team drafting either, what their needs are and who they already have in the front court and which player could complement them and be the better or more sensible fit.
