Dwight Howard Grasps at Straws, Says the Magic Have Respected the Celtics Too Much (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=tsn-dwighthowardgraspsat)

Let’s cut right to the chase: the Magic offense has been terrible in the Eastern Conference Finals. Yes, the Celtics are playing some amazingly tremendous defense, but the Magic could be playing much, much better.
Luckily, Dwight Howard thinks he has the answer: Orlando has shown their opponent too much respect (http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_magic/2010/05/dwight-howard-weve-given-cs-too-much-respect.html). From Magic Basketblog:
“We got to win the first quarter,” he said. ”Last game we were kind of hesitant in a lot of things we did. The biggest thing is being aggressive. We’ve shown their defense too much respect. We’ve got to attack.”
Howard said the Magic are confident despite the fact no team has ever come back from an 0-3 hole to win a seven-game series.
“We’re very confident, coming out tonight and playing great. No more talking to be said. We’ve watched enough film. We’ve seen enough mistakes. It’s time to go work.
Maybe Howard’s right and the Magic have just been tentative because they’re scared of the Celtics’ defense. But that seems like a difficult argument to make considering how thoroughly Boston has embarrassed Orlando in this series.
Yet it’s one of the only explanations that the Magic can turn to now that they’re on the verge of elimination. If they admit that the Celtics are just out-performing them, the end of the series is a foregone conclusion. This explanation at least gives the impression that the series is under their control and that they can change their fortunes after three very tough losses.
So don’t blame Dwight Howard for saying something that doesn’t seem accurate. It’s all he and his teammates have right now.
