No, he pointed out a simple fact. If the job doesn't pay you what you think you deserve, find a higher paying job.

Isn't making money a good, true capitalist value?
Or it stops being a good value when your employer is the state?

I'm a Jersey Democrat but I'm with Christie on this issue. I wanted to be a teacher until i saw the pay scale and decided i needed to make more money to support the lifestyle i wanted. I hate when teachers complain about pay without considering their great job stability, good health and retirement benefits, and holidays and summers off.

HGov. Christie needs to fund the public libraries though. In a recession public libraries become one of the few places poor people can get access to information whether its books, magazines, internet, music or movies.

If you're so concerned about unemployment, you should ask Christie why it's ok in this economy to lay off people.

I wish Christie the best, because this state needs help, and Corzine was beyond corrupt. I just think people are starting to realize what they got themselves into, and I don't think they're liking it at all.

What insult? What threat?

story (http://www.northjersey.com/news/state/politics/052510_NJ_Gov_Chris_Christie_defends_cuts_promotes _property_tax_cap_in_Rutherford.html)

But borough teacher Rita Wilson, a Kearny resident, argued that if she were paid $3 an hour for the 30 children in her class, she’d be earning $83,000, and she makes nothing near that.

"You’re getting more than that if you include the cost of your benefits," Christie interrupted. [See below link. --Y]

When Wilson, who has a master’s degree, said she was not being compensated for her education and experience, Christie said:

"Well, you know then that you don’t have to do it." Some in the audience applauded.

Christie said he would not have had to impose cuts to education if the teachers union had agreed to his call for a one-year salary freeze and a 1.5 percent increase in employee benefit contributions.

"Your union said that is the greatest assault on public education in the history of the state," Christie said. "That’s why the union has no credibility, stupid statements like that."

According to these School Board minutes (http://www.rutherfordschools.org/boardofed/boardofed/minutes/minutes2009/MT071309.min.pdf), Wilson makes over 86K a year.

I think Christie is on safe and popular ground...

And, oh yeah, he's not up for re-election until 2013. The moderates can't fume for that long and, if New Jersey's fiscal state is better then, this will have been long forgotten except for how it demonstrated his resolve.

I don't think you will find many people disagreeing with the notion that some , if not all, state employees having a wage freeze for year (although it is actualy 2 yrs). The problem lies in the fact that Chrsity decided to insult the teacher for political purposes. Like Yoni mentioned teachers aren't going to vote for cristy anyway so he loses nothing by making an ass of himself. Of course this is red meat for his base and they love it.

New Jersey Battles Over Tax On Millionaires (http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE65J1NQ20100620)

According to the nonpartisan Office of Legislative Services, a retired couple living on a fixed income of $40,000 would see an increase of $1,320 in taxes under the governor's plan while a family making $1.2 million would receive a tax cut of $11,598.

Awake from your dogmatic slumber, Americans. Conservatives and their center-right partners (aka The Democratic Party) are waging a ruthless class war on working people and the poor.

Tax cuts for millionaires, more taxes and declining wages and standard of living for you - is this the best deal available America?

Winehole23

Tax cuts for millionaires, more taxes and declining wages and standard of living for you - is this the best deal available America? It's the only result imaginable. We pawned our future to save the shitty banks and broker-dealers from default. To cushion the blow to confidence in the US, we've debased the currency and assumed unsustainable levels of deficit and debt.

Eventually the millionaires will have to pay more too. Our money will be worth less, we'll get paid less in real terms, and government services will be cut.

The lifestyle zenith may already have been reached in the US. Maybe now we're just starting to settle down to the level of the rest of the world.

It's the only result imaginable.
Hardly. Beware the deficit hawks. I'm reminded of the run up to the Iraq war - the problem is a lack of real dicussion and info flow in our democracy. Don't let the conservative mainstream media define the options/talking points for you. I'm not convinced the powers at be are exploring all the options, are you? Only the options that benefit their own interests it seems to me.

We get paid less already. Look up the decline in real wages that has been going on for the last 30 years.
Also look up Eisenhower's tax rate on millionaires.

Settle down to third world levels you mean, right? We're already behind many other industrialized nations/Western democracies in terms of social services, education, health care and other factors.

New Jersey Battles Over Tax On Millionaires (http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE65J1NQ20100620)

Awake from your dogmatic slumber, Americans. Conservatives and their center-right partners (aka The Democratic Party) are waging a ruthless class war on working people and the poor.

Tax cuts for millionaires, more taxes and declining wages and standard of living for you - is this the best deal available America?

This is the GOP political platform in a nutshell...

Bullshit.

You libtards never learn. You cannot tax yourself into prosperity. You don't need higher taxes, you need more tax payers. Keep raising taxes, and the people who have the money, relocate. You lose tax payers.

What...

Wanting fair taxes rather than more and more redistribution of wealth?

When will you people with room temperature IQ's wake up?

Yep... The supply and demand of labor. The sad truth is that as women went to work, the real wages went down. Now it takes two incomes to bring in the money of one income.

Also look up Eisenhower's tax rate on millionaires.

There wasn't a global economy like today. Now the rich simply relocate their residency, so do businesses.

According to the nonpartisan Office of Legislative Services, a retired couple living on a fixed income of $40,000 would see an increase of $1,320 in taxes under the governor's plan while a family making $1.2 million would receive a tax cut of $11,598.

Looks like redistribution of wealth to me...
