Tony was hurt mosta the year as was CP3 but, that doesnt exculde them from notable PGs!
Interestin though, if we go by jus injury then maybe, jus maybe rondo has a chance!

Based solely on this years play, TP does not make it. But if you are using logic and taking into consideration past accomplishments along with ability to maintain a certain level of play, TP is certainly top 5.

2008 is begining to look more and more like a fluke year for tony parker. He was handed the keys and was basically almost swept by the mavs(lol). Again, he's no where near close to top 5. If he was playing at the level he showed for a short while in 2008, then yeah, probably.

Rondo is better than CP3

Can't believe people still praise a guy who lets Pargo take 13 4th quarter shots, loses by 60 in the playoffs getting shut down by Dahntay fucking Jones, outplayed by Billups, AND follows it up by missing 40 games this year.

if that's the stuff of top 5 PG's then this is a sad time for that position in the NbA.

All NBA defensive 1st team

Good regular season and great playoffs.

Rondo is top 5 for sure, maybe top 3. Matter of opinion.

Whats not a valid opinion is CP3 being better than Rondo.

This year, no. Overall, clearly.

This is becoming spurfans favorite line. I've heard it said about Manu, Duncan and TP. Over the last few years. Its like they don't know what kind of list were making here. We're not saying who has had the better career.

So TP wasn't better than Rose this year, do you think he will be next year? When Rose will get even better?

BadOdor
05-31-2010, 06:39 PM
This year, no. Overall, clearly.

This argument is bullshit though. In the NBA, unless you have a long history of being top 3, for example, you are only as good as you're last year. Parker has been top 5/top 3 level only for a short stretch of time in 2008. Right now I'd say the chances are that his level back then was more of a fluke than the norm.

05-31-2010, 06:42 PM
I agree. Rose is a bigger, stronger, more athletic version of Parker, only he's played at or near the level Parker has in recent seasons for less than one full season, yet people have inexplicably already placed him above Parker. Why; because he projects to be better? Unbelievable the lack of respect Parker receives and typical of the impulsive analysis that's become increasingly prevalent in sports in recent years.

Rose is either sixth or seventh, but he's got to do something to get into the top five, even if it's something as simple as maintaining his current level of play for longer than less than one full season.

I don't think Rose is top-7. Not enough defense/playmaking/game management.

1. Deron Williams
2. Chris Paul

3. Rondo, Nash, Billups
6. Curry

7. Westbrook

8. Parker

I think I'd put Rose in the #9-#13 range.

TP leads the Spurs to 50+ wins in the West last year with Finley and Bonner starting. Rose's best year, this year, he leads the Bulls to 41 & 41............In the East.

Rose's best year has not matched TP's and at best is level with the many of TP's years.

Clearly Rose had a better year this year. He certainly could be better than TP, but don't knock TP without knowing what you are talking about.

TP also had Tim Duncan. And Manu for a little over half the year. Roses starting lineup didn't feature big names.

Im just saying, if Rose was better this year in just his 2nd year in the league, I think he will easily be better next year. So its safe to say Rose>Parker. imho.

Rose was better compared to a hurt TP. Not a healthy TP. Given, there is nothing you can do about that, but TP's last few years were all better if not equal to Roses.

Rose could very well end up being better than TP. I just think it is foolish that TP gets so little respect.

Although Rose did not have Duncan, he had solid players around him.

I love how when it's convenient, then Duncan becomes something again. When it's not, he's not.

Going forward, who would you take...

Paul or Williams? I think Paul is slightly better, but Williams is bigger, stronger and probably will be more durable. I'm going with Williams.

Rose or Wall? Obviously Wall has yet to play an NBA game, so it's tough to judge him, but he's supposedly a better version of Rose. Right now I'm undecided.

Rondo or Westbrook? Both athletic freaks, but Rondo is more of a true PG. I'm going with Rondo.

Curry or Jennings? While I think Jennings will be very good, I think he also got over hyped this past season because he's flashy and outspoken. Curry, on the other hand, has already exceeded my expectations and I like his size/skill set better. I'm going with Curry.

JamStone

I'd take Rondo over any point guard not named Deron Williams or Chris Paul right now. I wasn't a big fan of Rondo for a long time. I thought he was more of a product of the players around him. But last year's playoffs, this past season, and these playoffs have convinced me. He has become the Celtics best player. He won't always be the highest scorer. He won't always run the team perfectly. But he has become a difference maker at both ends. He really is their most important player. He still has a ways to go with his jumper, especially as applied to free throws. But the rest of his game is great. Even when his very good teammates don't play well, he can carry the team. He has evolved into a top 3 PG in the league imo. I don't like anything about the Celtics, but I appreciate Rondo's game.

Nash played great this post-season and it's almost a toss-up between him and Rondo, but I'd go with Rondo because of his all around game and also because of his youth.

So Deron Williams, CP3, Rondo and/or Nash at 3 and 4, and I'd probably place Billups at #5 because of how he runs a team. I think Rose is still developing. He's close though. Right now, at least for me, he's still more a great athlete who plays point guard rather than a great point guard. I think Russell Westbrook has a chance to be in the conversation if he continues to develop like he has. Tony Parker is in the mix with those guys. Great player who can take over games, but still could improve his overall point guard game. Oh yeah forgot, I also like Stephen Curry a lot too. Just don't know if he's in the conversation with the guys I mention above just yet.

I liked Curry during the season, but if it wasn't for a discussion with my dad who kept arguing I wasn't giving Stephen enough credit for his passing ability I wouldn't put him as high. I went to see clips of him and I now think the old man was right.

Cp3 is a loser. Chokes in Game 7 against the Spurs, quits on his team in the playoffs last year and gets outplayed by Billups / shut down by Dahntay Jones.

Quits on BYron Scott this year, gets him fired, AND THEN decides to miss 40 games.

This guy is a winner as a person, but a loser as a basketball player. Plain and simple.

Not for this year's play, but if you are using logic and projecting, TP is top 5.

Rose was only better because TP was hurt. Even in Rose's best year (this one), he never really approached TP's best year (which was just one year ago). It is not like it is logical to expect TP to fall off a cliff.

Ice009

Tp is definitely not top 5 this year. He was very, very average compared to his standards. Injury and fatigue played a big factor in that though. Let's see how he goes next season because last season he was clearly top 3 and approaching Superstar level play for a good 3-4 months.

I wonder if Rondo is being slightly overrated though. He is great and I love the way he is playing, but I'd like to see Rondo on an average team that isn't loaded like the Celtics are.

Russell Westbrook is someone I was impressed with this season. He just needs to clean up his game a little bit though as he makes dumb mistakes sometimes with turnovers and throws up bad shots, but otherwise he is a beast and he really started to put it together just before the playoffs and into the playoffs.

I actually think Rondo would fit even better on a playing for a team with a PG-centric system (where he'd have the ball on his hands more time) + with a running game style instead of the grind out, ball-sharing Celtics. Surround him with athletic players + shooters in that system and most of the people who are still sceptic would be worshipping him.

I can see based on Rose's pedigree and this last year how the argument can be viewed, but I just have not seen anything that shows Rose is better than TP if you are assuming both are healthy at this point in their careers. I am not saying TP is better than Rose in every aspect, but certainly TP's level of play for many years now has been at a very high level, with a couple years of elite play mixed in.

The numbers show this along with the impact on a winning team. That is a lot harder than people give credit for.

Tony Parker was better than Steve Nash last season. He was top 3 PG, maybe even number 1 as both Chris Paul and Deron didn't finish that season great. So it doesn't take a genius to realize he was injured and fatigued this season. He defintely was not top 5 this season, but to act like he sucks or say he is not anywhere near the top 5 is a joke.

Meh, what's the hurry? there's plenty of things to do while I look for a job.

Like writing a blog about how my life sucks and how eating fruit loops is the highlight of my day, you know?

You're right, it's not close, it's exactly like that.

Lol, that's a diss at Angel_Luv, who did exactly what I described.

Not surprised someone who thinks manu>dirk took that in face value though.

Not in that thread, so I didn't see it, That's why I asked you:

Are you really going to make me look it up? Can you confirm that you have never wrote the phrase "my life sucks" in ST even as a joke that could have been misinterpreted?

3. Nash

Rondo could have Ray Allen game 3 type performances for the rest of this series, but Lakerhater would be the only person exempt from shitting on Rondo because of him saying he'd take fucking Mike Conley over him.

Up to this point in the Finals, who is playing like the MVP for the Celtics? Is it Rondo, Pierce, Garnett? I've only watched part of the latest game so far.

Rondo. And he stunk up the joint tonight. If Boston wins the title it's going to be a tough call on MVP unless Rondo has a brilliant Game 7.

For the Lakers, Kobe and Gasol have both been great. Another tough call for MVP. I'd lean toward Gasol right now but neither would be an injustice.

Of course, nobody will remember Rondo's mediocre Finals performance as the "best player on the Celtics."
