Job posting indicates BioWare is adding a multiplayer programmer to the Mass Effect franchise.
Commander Shepard has built a formidable crew to save the galaxy, while romancing a lady or two along the way. But interstellar exploration is still an isolated experience for fans of BioWare's sci-fi franchise. That could be about to change: the rumor mill reports multiplayer is coming to Mass Effect 3.
According to an Electronic Arts job posting, as spotted by Cinemablend, BioWare Montreal is looking to hire a multiplayer programmer for the Mass Effect franchise to ensure the game engine works "reliably and efficiently in a multiplayer environment."
The position's key responsibilities appear to all but confirm we will be seeing multiplayer, in some shape or form, in Mass Effect 3:
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide and implement solutions to deal with network latency, de-synchronization of data between networked machines/players, packet compression, cheating, and interrupted connections
- Implement and integrate core online components on multiple hardware platforms
- Develop and enforce best practices guidelines for other programmers on the project
- Work with databases that allow for chat rooms, client/server games, player matching, player stats, etc.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personal thoughts:
I think a multiplayer option is bad for Mass Effect unless its aiming towards an MMO or co-op play during the main story line. but it doesnt sound that way. I can just picture cheesy ass death matches and capture the flag bullshit in a universe that could be so much more.
This game is slowly turning into Halo/gears of war bastard child with minimal character customisation. I hope they dont fuck this up.
