All time. He is voted in the top 50. Should he be kicked off?

Just wondering....

You should make one for Shaq....

and who knows, maybe someone will make one for Kobe and Wade. ;)

And so The Machine finishes the knot on his little trap.

Like I said in the other thread, it will be interesting to see people dismiss the reasoning, but it seems solid to me. Pippen is widely held as a top-50 player all time. I think he deserved it when he was selected 10 years ago or whenever but with all the new additions like Kobe, Garnett, Duncan, and arguably LeBron (if you think he's been around long enough) it is possible he could be getting close to pushed out.

But I suspect he still belongs because he truly was a great 2-way player.

Pau doesn't yet belong though it is possible if he keeps playing at a high level he may one day. But I doubt it.

I don't really care to get into Kobe/Jordan debates because Jordan at his peak was clearly a better player and also had the better career.

But that Kobe is continuing to close the gap in career numbers -- especially playoff performances -- is noteworthy.

So it's worth debating whether one would rather have a top-50 guy like Pippen and super role players like Rodman, Kukoc, Grant, etc. over the years... or a top-75-100 player like Gasol and possibly a better lineup of role players on the same team in Artest/Odom/Bynum/Fisher (and Ariza for Artest last year).

Tough call but I'm gonna go with Jordan's teammates. Pippen and Rodman were beasts and Grant, Kukoc, Kerr, Paxton, Cartwright, and company were no slouches, either.

MJ won 6 with Pippen as his wing man.

Shaq won 3 with Kobe

Kobe has won 1 with Pau.

MJ won 6 with Pippen as his wing man. (a top 50 player all time sidekick)

Shaq won 3 with Kobe (a top 10 player all time sidekick)

Kobe has won 1 with Pau. (an all-star sidekick)

thanks mr obvious

If Pau had been a Laker through the 00's, then no doubt he'd be Top 50.

You're making this over complicated. LA was the most staaaaked team in 09. They were the favorites because they had a top 5 player in the league AND a top 15 player in the league. No other team had that. Then you add in Odom and Ariza and they have a very good team who was able to avoid Boston because of injury.

"Most" :lol It was all delusions of grandeur after the Brenda trade.

Listen to Laker fan when it comes to the Dallas Mavericks. The Lakers know that ass inside and out.

But lets not change the subject :lol

:lol

:lol

The subject is Jordan winning with another top 5 player in the league and top 50 of all time. While Kobe is currently winning with Pau Gasol. A player spurstalk voted out of the top 50 by a landslide. :rollin

Kobe and Jordan aren't comparable in any way TBH..Kobe isn't even comparable to Kareem/Wilt/Magic/Bird TBH, he's heavily lacking in accolades and stats..so the Jordan comparable is insulting, no matter how many people come out and say it(in this "what have you done for me lately" world we live in)..there isn't possibly an argument anybody can make TBH, Kobe is just lacking..

I'll check the #2 argument anyways though..

During the regular season this year, Pau Gasol was the leader for the Lakers in Win Shares/Wins Produces by a HUGE margin..he also led the Lakers in PER, he was the most efficient player on the team, he led the team in ORating and was only behind Odom when it comes to defensive rating..Gasol was even #2 on the team in APG..

The playoffs haven't been much different..Pau leads the Lakers in Win Shares/Wins Produced, by far the leader in ORating, the most efficient player on the team, their leading rebounder and shot blocker..

Scottie Pippen never even APPROACHED Jordan in ANY of these categories..the usage % between MJ and Pippen was pretty much the same difference between Kobe and Gasol, yet Pau has managed to approach or even surpass Kobe in many of these valuable categories, yet this continues to be ignored..

So ultimately, The Machine tried to show that Jordan's #2 option was better, which a lot of people believe(I'm not disagreeing)..however, it turns out that Jordan's gap over Pippen when it comes to dominance/stats/impact is A LOT bigger than Kobe's gap over Gasol, which is kind of funny considering the point of this all was to show that Jordan had the better #2 option..

As offensive talent, while not dominant, Pippen was still an MVP candidate at some point in his career. Finished third in voting once, another time fifth.
As defensive player, he's arguably the best perimeter defender of all time.
He was also very versatile, could play from 1 to 4.
He's a proven winner, and almost won another championship in 2000 with the Blazers. That one was without MJ or Phil Jax.
His teams have made the playoffs every season, except the last one. MJ and Kobe missed some playoffs during their primes.
He played better in the playoffs than in the regular season.

So he has to be in.
