It's always fun till you lose. Poker 50% skill? 60? I have no idea I never play. Looks like it's easy to lose though so that's why i don't play =/

Heath Ledger

Lol. Dude definitely more than 50 percent skill. Over the past two years I have profited in 70 percent of my sessions. In long sessions there are many swings both being up and down, the key is jumping off on an upswing and not try to be too greedy. I will not argue that there is a certain element of luck, however there is a ton more luck in tournaments than cash games. If you put your money in good the math and odds will take care of the rest in the long haul. Yes there are days when you just cannot seem to win but for me those are few and far between. I make adjustments when I'm running bad to minimize my losses.

When you play cash games you are looking for profitable situations. You have the luxury of waiting as long as you want and not forcing anything if the cards are not coming. However in tournaments you do not have that luxury due to the blinds continuously raising you are forced to make plays/put your money in with shitty cards. You cannot wait for the nuts in tourneys.

Most tourists in Vegas just run out of patience and do dumb shit like shove with top pair top kicker kind of hands only to be snapped off by my 46 off suit that has flopped two pair or a straight.

If only online poker was this easy.

Considering I spent about $900 on food and partying and was still up $1300 whats weak?

:lol at the people saying poker is 50% luck.

Poker is at least 75% skill and at best 25% luck.

Unless you catch a run of cold cards for 90 minutes-plus, you're going to find a way to win hands if you know what you're doing. Even with rags, you can be dangerous if you know how to pick your spots.

I should have been up way more I played 5 cash sessions all week but long ones. I had several horrible beats due to runner runners and people putting a sick amount of money into the pot with very marginal hands and killing me on the river.

I played a very agressive game so i was swinging like a monkey and picking my spots well and getting big calls due to my loose image.

Manny you talk a good game have fun micro grinding online. It's obvious to me that I'm a solid player at my stakes and that's all I need to be because there are sony fish.

My guess Manny in live play you would be one of them.

Kinda thought it was bad "luck" (which may or may NOT exist in gambling, apparently) to mention a heater when you're supposedly on one. Similar to pitchers going for the no-hitter.

This is so true. If poker is 75% skill, Jamie fuckin Gold wouldn't have won the largest tournament of the year several years ago. Poker in my book is 60% luck and 40% skill, yeah, that 40% is enough where the great players can make good money off it, but no amount of skill can trump good luck.

it depends on the card games ur playing...

ive seen guys win every hand on baccarat and think they are the shit for the 1-2hr winning 200k, then losing it all the next hour or night....

ppl just dont know when to lose, you cant always win against the casino, you cant win all its money...give it a rest and live to fight another day.

fck poker at the casinos, if you want real drama, attend home games if you do get invited, you see ppl gamble everything from homes to wives etc...ive seen ppl hand over cars, house keys, wives for the night....then again gettin ur house raided is a funny scene...

Sample size. Anyone can get lucky in the short term, skill wins out over the long haul. Poker is a game of skill. By the way Jamie Gold lost most of that money back in Cash games to people who are actually good. He's a fucking fish.

i know a guy who wants to be a professional poker player. everybody laughs at him. good luck to him though :tu. most of the ones i see have business backgrounds, a solid job, or a family fortune. he just has delusion.

imo, if i were to be anything "professional" itd be something that requires mad skill and hours of practice. something where "bad luck" is just a result of PPP - piss poor performance.

Heath Ledger

I already own a (usiness that pays the bills and then some. I do not have a need or desire to do this for a living. Someone says poker is boring. It most certainly can be especially when you are grinding in cash games. Sometimes hours and hours(or rarely multiple sessions) with no kinds of cards but thats where it helps to be creative and unpredictible, so you are not just sitting there waiting for the nuts.

This is not just some pipe dream for me, ive proven over the last several years to be profitable over hundreds and hundreds of hours. Its a good side income. I plan on stepping up my game and playing in some bigger buy in tournaments more consistently as my bankroll allows as I've proven to be very solid in tournament play as well.

I prefer tourneys because they can be a bit more exciting but cash games are definitely the bread and butter. I also enjoy the interaction with people from all over the world. My fiance and I are getting back together, Im flying to Tn tonight to get her and drive back to Vegas by Sunday or Monday where we are renting an apartment.

I don't care if you want to make fun of me or whatever. Most of you who do play are casual players and wouldn't have a clue anyways. Feel free to sit at my table any time. Im a regular at the Flamingo for cash games. I'll buy you a few rounds :)

Gah I hear ya about online... cash games are rough with most people set squating on 40 tables at once.
