Is he really getting paid on both of those contracts?

No...I'm pretty sure the Rangers paid him off in a settlement of some sort...though I could be wrong.

I could have sworn I have heard that a big reason for the bankruptcy was for his contract. My question is, how much of that contract did they pay him?

Because that is sick if he got most of it, then signed that contract w NY

Not 51M a year, but still..

Two sources of payments from Texas that went to/will go to Arod for many years after he stopped playing for them:

1. Early on during his time with Texas he agreed to defer 45M in salary. That money to be paid from 2011-20.

2. Texas wanted to get rid of him and his contract so badly that they agreed to pay roughly 70M of the 180M remaining on the contract at the time of trade in 2004. I have seen reports that Texas has been late with their payments.

Great source for baseball contract info:

Barry Zito (up until this year), Vernon Wells (ditto), and Chris Webber being on there is just as funny as Lewis making that much.

This is what I hate more than anything.

When trading him to the Yankees, the richest sports franchise in America, they still have the stupidity to offer to pay a bunch of A-Rod's contract. Like the goddamn Yankees can't afford it.

Tom Hicks is the antichrist.

Like I said the day he signed the contract, that will get someone fired one day. However, didn't Jermaine O'Neal and Kobe Bryant (137 mil, if I recall correctly) have larger extensions than both KG and Lewis? Also, that's what Amare wants from the Suns. Ouch.

I used to watch the Sonics when I lived in Seattle. I find it astonishing that anyone would think Rashard was worth max money. What were they looking at and what were they thinking? I guess this is one time where optimism didn't pay off. I guess they looked at Rashard's development and thought he would blossom into a Superstar. I don't think you could find 5 Sonics fans in Seattle who would reach such a ridiculous conclusion.

He's an OK player -but there's nothing he does that can be described as excellent or great.
Unbelievable.

This list indicates that Schumacher was making 31 million at Ferrari. I believe that those are contract values, hence Tiger would be dead last on this list along with every other golfer.

Hence the 51 million. Most of it is hazard pay.

Problem with most sports you pay off of potential and projections rather than production, much like the stock market.

In the real world ...you pay for and reward CURRENT productivity ...

I agree with Capt. I always followed the sonics as a "secondary" team because I loved Payton and Kemp and worked for WAMU ..which had it's corporate headquarters in Seattle ...so i travelled there a lot and since I love ball ...I admired the sonics ...

I thought Orlando overplayed drastically. No doubt it made sense to get a floor spacer for howard but they overpaid and overestimated Rashard.

2 years ago he had a pretty good playoff run ...

but not a max player one, not even close
