Good work 'lil mo :tu

I just pulled all this junk out of an upstairs closet and there's still more. I think I'll just get out the hard drives and memories and take it all to Goodwill.

Do a system restore to the day you bought it.

Reformatting won't erase your personal info. Use dban (http://www.dban.org/) to wipe it clean.

Seriously, the only reason I could see people wanting to buy a machine from 2001 is to go back and steal credit card numbers from people who thought erasing files or doing a format was enough.

I'm thinking of selling my old XP system with the 2.4 ghz celeron and 80gbyte HD. Problem is, now that you can get computers for cheap, it isn't worth much. I'm thinking of just giving it to a friend who is often strapped for cash.

If you get more than $50 for a 2001 desktop I'll be completely shocked..

No kidding. I'd be surprised too. I might get $100 for mine, but I think I would rather give it to someone who doesn't have a computer and cant afford one.

We recently got rid of three desktops from about 2000-2001.. we just took out the hard drives and gave them away like you're thinking about doing. Then drilled the HDD's with a power drill

Buy a drive scrubber. It will permanently erase everything (data, spyware, virus, malware) on your computer leaving it like new, and it only costs about 25 bucks. You can also use it on more than one computer.
