:smokin :ihit

My hearts says Australia pulls an upset and wins 2-1, my head says Germany 3-1 :lol

If i was Verbeek, id rest Kewell or Cahill in the first half, see how the game is going and then decide if it was worth risking it. The next two matches are far more important than this one and you don't want the top players injured before the crucial games.

A win or draw in this would be awesome.

Good luck to the Germans and all their fans on ST. Enjoy the game. :toast

Oh, and thank you Australia for celebrating the Queen's birthday tomorrow, it means my exam was postphoned till Tuesday and i can go out and watch the game at 4am :elephant

Let's see if Germany can be the first top team to run over the competition (I don't think they will tbh).

Hope Schweinsteiger has an amazing game, or my goddamn fantasy will pretty much depend entirely on how my two spaniards and my two brazilians do in this round lol

This game is going to be hectic. It's going to very loud in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Nuggets Fan have you seen the add on SBS where the commentators are drinking champagne to x rays of Ballacks foot. It's a great add :lol

When was the last time we lost an opening game? 40 years ago?

I dont think we will lose but we have the youngest team since 1936, so we have to see how good they can handle the pressure.

Australia is a pysical strong team, would have prefer a team like algeria....

I say 2:0 or 3:1

pookenstein

I think we'll win the game 2-0.
If I had one wish I'd wish that Löw would bench Kloses useless ass. Unfortunately that won't happen. But I'd be more than happy to eat a crow if he surprises me and plays well.

Im okay with giving Klose today the first 60-65 minutes.

Gomez sucked the same, Kießling in the test games, Cacau has barely international experience and then you let him start the first game?

Klose need a goal against Australia and then i think he will be fine for the cup...

pookenstein
06-13-2010, 10:26 AM
I hope he scores, but he not only sucked with Bayern, but also on the National Team. Last good game was in Moscow. If he doesn't steps up we should go with Cacau, Gomez or Müller. As much as I like Kiesling, I don't think he can play at this level.
Also Trochowski needs to sit. Play Müller or Kroos. Trochowskis time is over.

Hewitt got a lucky netcord on the last point, but he played pretty decent and Federer made too many mistakes.

I think Germany will take this one against Australia, though it's hard to tell how good or bad exactly the Germans will be in this tournament as they are playing with a quite young and inexperienced squad.

Add Klose and Podolski to that list.

Klose and Podolskis parents are from Opole and Gliwice (or Oppeln and Gleiwitz) which were part of Germany until WWII. Both towns today have a huge German minority and there are bilingual German-Polish schools there.

Kloses and Podolskis parents both came to Germany when their kids were very young (Klose 8, Poldi 2), so both boys grew up in Germany.

NuGGeTs-FaN

Good game Germany. Class outfit that looks far better than any team that has played so far. They should go deep, if not all the way

Aussies just didn't close out on the Germans and gave them way too much space. Aussies just don't have any strike power to counter

What pisses me off is that the Germans were going to win anyway, but the ref is a friggin' moron! A Missed blatant handball in front of the goal, it would have been 2-1 then, but instead he lets it go and gives the biggest bullshit red card that pretty much seals the fate of Australia. I hope he is still reffing in 2022 and gets kicked in the nuts by a Kangaroo.

I bet that has nothing to do with the fact that Jurgen is friend of the Germany's coach.

Well he also coached them four years ago but I think I wasn't clear on what he was saying. He wasn't saying that the coaches they have at the NT level are better, but that due to their more narrow time frame they are working with them they are able to apply different techniques that simply aren't feasible at the club level.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germany_national_football_team

Nickname

In Germany, the team is typically referred to as the "Nationalmannschaft" (national team), "DFB-Elf" (DFB eleven) or "Nationalelf" (national eleven), whereas in foreign media, they are regularly described as the "Mannschaft" (literally meaning "Team").

Turniermannschaft

The term "Turniermannschaft" (literally: Tournament team) refers to a common myth in Germany that is used mostly by the media and the people alluding to former successes in World Cups and European Championships. In these tournaments, the team has proved that it is one of the most consistent teams although it has not always been counted among the favourites in the run-up. The term also expresses the hope that the team's mental strength and physical capability would grow during the tournament, even though other nations' teams are often accredited with more quality.

I think thats the simple key to success. Team. We never had the most talented roster.

Together with discipline and fight.

The midfielder broke down in tears as he was asked about his controversial sending off.

"It's one of the saddest moments in my football career to be in this position," Cahill said, just as Schweinsteiger approached him after the game.

Schweinsteiger stopped, tapped him on the shoulder and said: "That was not a red card."

this was a f*cking show by Germany. coming from a super young team many didn't know how they will fit together, especially with their leading player and captain out.
I guess the answer is, the injury of Ballack might have been the best that could happen to Germany. with him Özil never ever gets the chance to move and play like he did. (if he would have started at all). the whole teams looks almost liberated. (reports say that the young players are much more happy with Lahm as their captain, than with the not so popular Ballack)

Germany played a bit like we saw it from the great Netherland teams in the past. very good movement from all players, especially the change of gear when Schweinsteiger and Lahm brought the ball from defense. good play over the wings, with all the high quality possessions you can win a whole world cup. game could have easily ended like 7-1.
btw. Klose should have made 3 goals at least. but one point about him. he moves fantastic. even at 32. this was the key for getting all the opportunities he had.

Yeah. This is loss is not so much because of Australia 'sucking', it's just about Germany doing great.

I like Australia and I was hoping for them to show something, but this was a normal result. The only time Australia surprised was of course with Guus, the man who gives a team motivation. It's all about motivation, you can do a lot if you have it as a team.

I was thinking exactly that.

Ballack is a great player, but he's also a whiny duchebag with short temper, i agree the Germany is better off without him.

this team is shit compared to the 06 squad

this team is much better then 06. That team lacked alot in holding midfield and flank defense is you've watched the games and had ZERO creative force in midfield ( chaos factor players need speed & ball controll & passing, nobody fit the bill).

They are now a much better balanced, but less star studded. In soccer this is the recipe for success. Just look at how dunga picked his team, this is a much more tactical game.
