View Full Version : Apparently, 50 years of Celtics domination ain't enough
If the Celtics close this thing, they would have beaten the Lakers 10 times out of 12 in the Finals. I know the series ain't done, but still :lmao:lmao

The Celtics were not dominant beyond the 60's.
I guess you forgot how the Lakers owned the 80's winning 5 championships to the Celtics 3 with the Lakers in the finals 8 out of those 10 years.

"more "recent" success as a franchise"
But the Celts are the standard, I have to admit. 18 championships regardless of how they were attained is commendable. Can't argue that.
I'd rather yield to the Celts than ANY other team in this league for in the discussion of the greatest teams in the league it's only 2....Boston and L.A., no other team comes close. No other. We are in good company. :toast

in todays boston newspaper;
History holds that when an NBA Finals series is 2-2, the winner of Game 5 wins the championship 76 percent (19 of 25) of the time. The Celtics have never lost a seventh game in the Finals. They have been in this event 20 times, winning 17, including nine series against the Lakers. Boston has won a championship against the Lakers in five buildings: the Minneapolis Auditorium, the old Boston Garden, the Los Angeles Arena, the Los Angeles Forum, and the new Boston Garden. Now the Celtics have a chance to win the championship at the big arena on Figueroa Street in downtown LA.

Yes, the San Antonio Celtics will garner their 21 & 1/2 ring if they complete this. And we'll sit with the other 28 clubs who have already lost.

One championship in the past 24 years says all that needs to be said.
Needing the most lopsided trade in NBA history to win a title (and still probably only getting a SINGLE championship out of it) is all that needs to be said.
If the Spurs got Gasol for the equivalent of Nazr Mohammed and change, we'd take the LOB every year from now until Duncan retires.

You're making it pretty apparent that the highlight of your season was when the Spurs lost, since you've already stopped talking about the Finals like your team has a realistic shot to win it.
Good on you for being so focused on the Spurs, though. Rest assured that if we were in the Finals, Lakers fans would be sufficiently far enough below our notice that only the most easily trolled fans would even be responding to you.
As it is, though, great light show you're putting on. :tu If this gets any better I'll need 3D glasses to soak in the awesome.

Frankly, I don't care about beating them, I just didn't want them to win it all.
Don't tell my Lakers Brothers, but, if given a choice by God at the end of the regular season of having the Suns locked out of the LOB, but, I'd have to lock out the Lakers. Without hesitation.

i get the impression that Lakers' fans still hate the Spurs more than the Celtics. if the Celtics win this one, then maybe the tide turns...but it's goin' to be really hard to top the hatred that has collected after the toppling of the Dynasty in Staples in the fashion that we did and then pissing all over the Forum like we did in '99.

Not me, I only hate you because you're handy now and Luva is my mentor. You did me so many solids when I was on my ass that I'll always be beholden to ya's. Horry taking out Nash, Duncan puttin that 3 in. Without you guys I'd probably a lost the O & __ by now.
Katie-girl ran me off the day of the Duncan three cuz I was gonna black out the game and my youngest son ratted me out. So I had to drive around for 2 1/2 hours. I time it like I think it'll work, go in thru the garage, into the house, and my son says: "Get out!"........it had run long. I flee. I come back 30 minutes later, enter again...."It's ok, dad, they lost. It was a Duncan three."
MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
