Starting this one early since it's an early game.
I have 'La Roja' (chile) pinned down as a dark horse. They should easily dismantle Honduras.

Your take?

Chile wins. Honduras is the weakest of the three Concacaf teams.

It looks like Humberto Suazo is going to play.

No David Suazo for Honduras. I'll bet my money on Chile.

I live in Chile so i'm pretty familiar with their team. They are the shortest team in the cup and they dont have much depth, so they will need to play flawless to survive. they've generated high expectations so there is a lot of pressure on them for this first game.

Suazo is important, so much that i think Bielsa should try and win this game without him so he can fully recover. Its quite likely he will play Valdivia in his place.

With or without Suazo, the difference makers will be Alexis Sanchez- if he plays smart and fast he can cause a lot of trouble for the opposing D; if he hogs the ball he can kill his team. Chile really depends on him to make plays for the rest

aside from him, they'll need their young defenders to play well- medel, vidal, jara, isla are all quick guys with good technique and they need to supply the midfield with good outlets.

I agree they could make some noise, but ultimately they are screwed by the fixture- their most likely rival in the 2nd round (in order) are Brazil, Ivory Coast, or Portugal. It will be very difficult for them to pass either of those teams.

As for honduras, it looks like david suazo wont play for them and he is far and away their best player. Chile should win this game with or without either suazo, and they need to if they want to advance.

Rooting for Chile.

Are both Suazo's out? Or only Suazo from Honduras?

Chile FTW ! Chile is a pretty solid team surely one of the best generation they have had. Honduras is just terrible, I expect something like 2 or 3 / 0.

1-0 Chile, the difference should have been bigger. South American teams are 3W-2D (vs Italy and France)- 0L so far. The Conmebol should get at least one more spot for the WC.

LOL, wait until the elimination games begin at least. Then we will talk about this.

lol what? Most Conmebol teams would beat teams like Honduras, New Zeland and the lesser teams of Europe that get in the WC.

No, it isn't. Greece would have never won a WC. How a tournament with the best teams of a continent is going to be harder than a tournament with the best teams in the world? stop thinking you're better than the rest of the world. You remind me of those saying that the PL is better than any other league just because.
