BTW Koreans already said that they're going to stop Messi with "tactical" fouls, I hope the ref shows the cards when he has to.

I would like to hear right now if South Korea is to be considered a 'good' team. You know, before the game actually starts. I keep on hearing how Argentina needs to 'watch out', and how Nigeria was 'crap', and South Korea will be the 'true test', etc etc etc

I might end up eating crow, but I fully expect Argentina to demolish SK tomorrow.

Demichellis obviously didn't know he had a Korean so close and couldn't hear his teammates telling him to clear it because of the fucking vuvuzelas.

Huge phsycollogical goal for Korea in the last second of the first half, if they would have gone 0-2 down, there's now ay in hell they would have came back, now anything can happen.

The own goal and Korea's goal are practically the same thing. Both are due to errors in the defense.

Both were huge mistakes. At least Argentina didn't help out the Koreans by putting the ball in the back of their own net. They preferred to let the Koreans actually strike.

The Koreans really need to come out aggressive for the 2nd half. If they don't, chalk up the Argentina win (if they don't fall asleep again).

higuain did play better than the opener at least, but aguero showed more in the time he played. I hope milito plays against greece, european teams we'll need more height in attack.

and I hope pastore gets a chance to play with messi against greece as well. I think he can be a better option than maxi/veron/di maria.

did you SEE the goals?? These goals do nothing to dispel the criticism on the ball. It still flies awkwardly, it still bounces like a fucking basketball, etc.

I know........but that's how people who criticize it think. I heard people say it's going to be the lowest scoring world cup (might still be) because of the ball. It's stupid. If you get good contact, it will go on target (Mbia, Forlan, Podolski). It's been used in many tournaments and now that the world cup is here, people want to bitch about it. Cech said he loved the ball. It probably swerves more + altitude doesn't help but it's not like they're kicking balloons out there

Evra blamed the ball for losing. :lol Unbelievable.....that's the French CAPTAIN saying this..great leadership. Jabulani means celebrate.....I'd rather people do that than whine and try to taint the beautiful game.

diego
06-17-2010, 08:35 AM

And risk an injury or a red card? No way, fuck rhythm

that has to be the thinest argument yet. Diego is right, this team hasn't had enough time to build chemistry on account of Maradona's obssessive complusive rearranging during the qualifiers. They needs playing time together.

you cant play afraid of injuries, you just cant. no matter the sport.

with samuel hurt (i dont think its too serious), you can play burdisso some more; with jonas out you can try otamendi in defense. up front play milito in place of higuain. I would rest tevez and put in pastore, then around the half change messi for aguero, masche for bolatti, and clemente rodriguez for heinze or micho (clemente sucks now, and you'd have to shift the others so clemente is on the side but whatever just get one of heinze/micho some rest before the next game).

messi has played great but he still hasnt found his shot and he needs to be comfortable with his role, know where his outlets are, where his help is upfront, etc. against korea there were a couple balls he lost right in front of the backline that can be the difference in a close game.

and :lol at urunobili. our 3rd goal was 10cm offside, the 1st was an own goal, the other 2 were clean and the last easily the best play of the cup so far. your 1st goal was a deflection, your 2nd goal was offside if not for the deflection, not a penalty, and got the other team a red card. if anything suarez should have got a yellow for his dive. who needs the refs?

edit: i saw another angle and of uruguay's second goal and the ball didnt deflect on a defender, it deflected off another uruguayan, definitely off side. you guys were lucky to win 1-0 yesterday off the deflection.

Romero

Garce Burdisso Otamendi Clemente

Pastore Bolatti M.Rodriguez

Messi

Aguero Milito

Messi needs to score to elevate his confidence even more, that's why I put him there.

Maradona the ultimate douchebag...

I have always been considered a hater in my country for supporting Argentina (sorry to disappoint but Uruguayan's best kept hidden secret is that they support Brazil) but this time and after the way Maradona conducted himself on the last qualifying match I can't buddy...

As a player Maradona vs Uruguay? lol they BARELY beat us in 1986 and then we shit on that same world champion team IN THEIR HOUSE to win the 1987 America's cup there... followed by the yet again semi final elimination in 1989 in Brazil... :toast

and argentina is still by far the country with the most copa america and copa libertadores titles, even if you put brazil and uruguay together. its the damn world cups we come up short.

i dont think argentina is favorite for anything, but they should definitely make it to quarters and we'll see who we face there.

i like uruguay, the country, the people, even the team. but you're going around saying argentina needs the ref or a korean to score (after making 4), a day after getting a goal off a deflection and a wrongly called penalty with red card included. i'll call you out on that every time.

Do you get points only for goals? 'Cause Messi has been the star of both Argentine's games.

No but you get +5 points for goals.
Messi has been avaraging about 8 pts a game while rooney and van persie have gotten only about 3 pts for their last matches :lol

and argentina is still by far the country with the most copa america and copa libertadores titles, even if you put brazil and uruguay together. its the damn world cups we come up short. Check your facts...

Uruguay 2 WC, 2 Gold Medals and SAME amount of Copa America's as Argentina... :rolleyes

Libertadores is a different story though... great that your 30 million country has 4,5 more than a 3 million one :rolleyes

i dont think argentina is favorite for anything, but they should definitely make it to quarters and we'll see who we face there.

:tu that's more real right there

i like uruguay, the country, the people, even the team. but you're going around saying argentina needs the ref or a korean to score (after making 4), a day after getting a goal off a deflection and a wrongly called penalty with red card included. i'll call you out on that every time.
I like Argentineans and their culture and BEAUTIFUL country... I despise THIS team... I just said it to get into your heads a little and it worked wonderfully well!!! :lmao

where did pele, didi, garrincha, jairzinho, zico, tostao, rivelino play 90-100% of their careers? if di stefano, maradona, sivori had spent 75% of their careers in argentina, we'd have an even bigger lead.

Love me some Seria A Brasileirao action, but if you're not in Europe you are mediocre in brasil, just look at our national squad. ff, you said our mediocre > your mediocre, thats not true, unless you consider pele, zico, and all the other i mentioned mediocre. and there are many more great brazilian players that spent large parts of their career at home but did not win libertadores trophies (socrates is another that comes to mind).

I dont love brasil, but I have respect. national team, especially over the last 20 years, you guys are better than us. and you have had many, many great players, much more than us. but on the club level argentina has been better, and its not because our players dont go to europe.

Argentina is going to have it very tough in the round of 16, be that against Uruguay or Mexico. They're both better teams than they're given credit for, dangerous players up front, good technically and well coached. With as fragile a defense as we've shown so far, a gaffe in the knock out stages like Demichelis' would be very difficult to overcome, particularly against the Uruguayans.

And should we advance, which we still should, that kind of toll early on you pay on the later stages, much like it happened in France 98 (round of 16 vs. England) and Germany 06 (round of 16 vs. Mexico), were both games went to extra time and ended up costing us big time in the quarters vs. Holland and Germany respectively.

Unfortunately, while I'd much prefer to face South Africa and France, it looks like no matter what we'll still get one of those two teams, so I guess we'll have to just deal with it and take our rest vs. Greece. I just hope that by the time we face them Samuel is back on the lineup and Maradona realizes Jonás Gutierrez is not a right back. That should tremendously help our cause. Otherwise we're in deep shit.

Apparently Maradona will play this team against Greece:

Romero

Otamendi Demichellis Burdisso Clemente

Maxi Bolatti Veron

Messi

Aguero Milito

A mix of starters and subs, seeing that Messi will play I don't know why Higuain doesn't start too, help the guy win the golden boot.

P/S: Messi will be the captain.

I'd rather give Milito a chance honestly. Higuain has done very little in the past two games. The three goals he scored against South Korea could have been scored by anyone playing in his place. He did nothing out of the ordinary. I think he'd been pretty crappy in fact. I think Milito can be a much more creative piece.

Don't underestimate the ability of knowing how to move to be right where you need to be, remember when we used to play with Aguero, Tevez and Messi toghether and we didn't play like we are playing right now. That's 'cause none of them knows how to move as a center forward: playing always in the line of the last defender, pivoting, making diagonals to open up spaces for others, etc. you may say well Milito can do the same, and it's probably true but Higuain IMO is a better player, he's younger, faster, stronger, ambidiextrous, and more talented with the ball. Besides after scoring a hat-trick his confidence is as high as it can be, I think that (now that I see that Maradona won't put all subs) it would have been better to let the guy keep boosting his confidence.

Did you know he was the most effective scorer in Europe? (that means that he was the striker that needed to take the least amount of shots to score). I wouldn't sub him just for an unlucky game against Nigeria, in which, I must add, he played fairly well aside from his missed chances.

If I was the coach I'd still bench Veron. He is the midfield best desicion maker of the team and he always have that kind of muscular injuries. Already being qualified risking Veron could end up being something you may regret on semi's or a potential Final.
