Wanted to seperate this from the discussion of the travesty that is that fucking call robbing us of 2 points.
The way I see it, we control our destiny. If we beat Algeria by 2, we are in. (It would give us the GD advantage over Slovenia in the event of a ENG-SLV tie).
If we by 1 goal over Algeria, we need either Slovenia or England to win outright, it won't matter who wins (we would finish 2nd in group either way with the loser of that match finishing with 4 points behind the US's 5 - this assumes England beats Algeria today.)
There are possibilities to finish 1st in group, but I'd rather not have to ponder that hard.
What happens if both US and Slovenia finish with 5 points and the same Goal Diff? What's the next tie break? Goals scored?

If the team comes out with the same sense of urgency they came out with in the 2nd half early against Algeria they should score multiple goals.
Thats a big if though. I was really disappointed by the first goal they gave up and the 2nd was only marginally better.
I do NOT want to see any more of Findley starting. Edson needs to start or Dempsy needs to start at forward but I just can't handle Findley's complete lack of touch when he gets the ball near the box.

The US is definately going to make it to the round of 16. Past that, depends on who they get.

Good news is that Findley is out the next match. I'd suspect we'd start Buddle in his place with Hercules still off the bench.

Oh shit I'd forgotten that he had a yellow in the first game. That yellow was great news then.
Gomez needs to be used as a sub for the energy he brings in. I really don't want to see him start. Even on is club team he did most of his damage as a sub.
I wouldn't be upset to see Dempsey just slide up to forward and see Bradley a mid fielder but I really do want to see what Edson can do here. I think he deserves a shot.

That horrible hand ball in the box call might actually help the US

:tu good breakdown
In the league format, the ranking in each group is determined as follows:
a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches. If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings will be determined as follows:
d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.

This:
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.
Should be replaced by bringing the two teams in question together for a shootout only. No game, just a shootout. Much more exciting, and there's someone to blame.

I'm pretty sure the US will file an appeal for that call and they will get the yellow card rescinded.....if not just to make up for that ridiculous phantom call.

Manny you know the team behind at halftime has nothing to lose and can attack harder. You canīt start the game against Algeria that agressive, you bill be behind again in a minute.

Whatever they do, they need to do something different because starting the game this way has given up early goals consistently. This might be the one case where the world is sympathetic to US and US will have a huge following to advance since they got flat robbed. People all over the world tend to side with someone who is unjustly treated.

From what I posted in the England-Algeria thread:
If England wins, they are in.
If US wins, they are in.
If Slovenia wins, they are in with top seed.
If Algeria wins, they need England to lose or tie.
If US and England win, England will have to beat Slovenia by 4 goals to win top seed, otherwise US gets top seed.
If England wins and Algeria-US tie, England is top seed Slovenia is 2 seed.
I think I got that right.
edit: England will have to beat Slovenia by AT LEAST 4 goals, depending on how much US beats Algeria by in the scenario US beats Algeria.

How they advance
United States
• Win vs. Algeria
• Tie with Algeria, and Slovenia-England tie IF England does not outscore U.S. by 2-or-more goals
• Tie and England loss
England
• Win vs. Slovenia
• Tie AND U.S.-Algeria tie AND outscore U.S. by 3 goals
Slovenia
• Win/tie vs. England
• Loss AND U.S. tie vs. Algeria
• Loss AND Algeria win as long as Algeria doesn't make up tiebreakers
Algeria
• Win vs. U.S. AND Slovenia win/tie vs. England
• Win vs. USA AND Slovenia loss vs England AND make up tiebreakers on Slovenia
Notes
• Only way both U.S. and England advance is if both win
• If the U.S. draws with Algeria and England draws with Slovenia, and England scores exactly two more goals than the U.S., the U.S. and England would be even on all tiebreakers for second place. The tie would be broken by drawing lots.

LOL worst group of the tournament.
slovenia/us/algeria/england <= ger/ghana/arg/bra/spa/por/ivory/chile/uru/serbs/mexico/ned/paraguay/ita/swi ... not in terms of position right now but in terms of play in the group stage, it's freakin obvious just watch the games. Knockout stage i don't know, it's a different game tho i don't see slo/us/algeria beat anybody past groups .. england might get lucky.
if you switch any team in our group with any team i mentioned above as better that team qualifies.
Therefore the group of amateurs

As long as the USA wins, they're in regardless of what happens between Slovenia and England.
I agree about starting Buddle over Findley. Findley doesn't play with a whole lot of confidence. He's very passive in the box.

JOHANNESBURG -- Slovenia striker Nejc Pecnik (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/124510) is out of the rest of the World Cup because of a broken ankle.
Slovenia spokesman Matjaz Krajnik said Saturday that Pecnik broke his right ankle during a collision with United States midfielder Clint Dempsey (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/39928) in the final minutes of Friday's 2-2 draw.
Pecnik had only come on in the 74th minute as a substitute for Zlatan Ljubijankic (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/69495).
Slovenia leads Group C with four points after two games and plays England on Wednesday in Port Elizabeth, needing only a draw in its final group match to qualify for the second round.

Bullshit. If we've learned anything from watching this world cup, it's that nobody knows a goddamn thing and anything is possible. We'll see what transpires once the group of 16 begins
said spain gonna choke, said england gonna choke, said arg hos to much firepower for their group, said uru beat south africa, said por and ivory are a draw, etc.
Some matches a really clear, i don't matter you don't get the perfect result, cause it's all just a statistical analysis, but when you have a good analysis you can predict the result by how the teams match up in the context of the game (go for win, need just a draw, pushed by press, protect carded player, etc, etc).
So you say uru beats south africa cause of counters due to south africa needing the points and being at home, thus being pushed by fans & press & group context to attack AND knowing uru has forlan/suazo(?not sure of name, good ballcontrol diver attacker from ajax, man of the match against south africa) who are great on the counter.
You say ned-jap is close because of how japs defend and the pressure they put from midfield and how the dutch will score only due to a moment of superior talent/luck as it happened.
Ofc you can't predict klose red card in min 15 & ger missing a penalty in the same game, but you can predict england inability to create chances, you can predict argies attack prowess not matched by the defense of the other teams, you can predict spain overplaing the wings and overrating themselves, you can predict algeria usa being an ugly close foul fest game, you can predict alot. Don't mean it's 100%, but it means that the game will probably go that way in terms of tactics and that gives a good shot at a good analysis.
