I agree, but Falla is playing very well. I think he's got a chance here of doing the unthinkable.
In either case, this can't be the way Roger was looking to open the tournament.

I was amazed at 28-27. Now at 51-50 it's difficult to comprehend even though I've been watching it. Never again will there be a match like this.
I feel bad for the chair ump. He's had to sit there for this entire time. The ball boys/girls and line judges get rotated out periodically at least.
In a typical match, it's not unusual to see the players pull out a spare shirt to put on as their first one is soaked. Likewise you'd see them switch to newer rackets. But with the length of this match, they're stuck with what they had in their bag, and it's clear neither of them brought a spare shirt. And the strings have to be getting pretty worn at this point. This set is just so incredible. It might not be the best quality of tennis at this point. But the fact that they're able to continue grinding it out there ... still hitting 120+ on serves is just unbelievable.

I think it's pathetic that neither player can break the other. What a load of crap watching two middle-of-the-road players putting on this "epic" battle. It's a freaking joke.

Pretty good. I'd say this game could go into the 80s before one of them is injured or finally loses the ability to coherently make shots.

what'd he do?
He took a medical timeout after holding serve in the 4th set. I think he was up 3-2 in the set, but down 2 sets to 1. In the presser, he said his right knee was bothering him and that his quad muscle was tight. After that timeout, he proceeded to break Petzschner's serve and then won the set 6-2.
He was also given an official warning for coaching.

out all people, I never thought It'd be Nadal doing that. In a sense, he's admitting that he needed to stop Petzschner's momentum. To be fair, everybody does the coaching thing. They should just make it legal already

Yeah, the furore is because he looked fine before and after the timeout, although he did call the trainer for one last time (not a medical TO) after that to rub his knee and quad again. He has also backed out of the Davis Cup this July against France to get treatment done on the right knee.
About the no-coaching rule, why do they keep it?

What? Out of the top guys Nadal is the one that asks for the trainer the most (alongside Djokovic), and always when he's losing.

ATP likes to stay with tradition and allow complete self reliance for the player to do it on his own. The rule is so stupid though. Some players look at their box and communicate with their coach on almost every point. Sharapova did it early on with her dad in the stands. Some use hand signals. It's so difficult for the umpire to judge that. They give warnings but I don't think they will ever deduct points for that.
ATP just needs to change tradition like they did with the Hawk Eye computer system. I'm personally against having them on the bench but against punish players when they communicate with their coach on the stands. The WTA has been testing that with some events so time will tell

i doubt that's true but I mean calling the trainer when he knows he's on the back foot and losing momentum. He did that to clearly collect himself (like a timeout)

He called the trainer 2 years ago in Hamburg. That is how long since he called a trainer before Petzschner. Forgot about the Murray match. He retired soon after the timeout. He's got knee problems. You expect them to flare up occasionaly.

What I don't like is that he always calls it when he losing, I never saw him calling it when he's winning or the game is tied. Djokovic is another guy that calls for the trainer a lot but I've seen a lot of times where he calls it when he's ahead.
