I don't get it.

You still need glasses right? And you still need to be watching something filmed and/or broadcast in 3D. 3D networks/broadcasts/blurays...

Can't you watch those on a 1080P HDTV? What does the 3D TV offer that the other hi-def TVs do not?

maybe if you watched something in 3D you would "get it."

There are two ways of doing the 3D from a flatscreen. Some flat screens have alternate polarity in the color cells. With these, you only need cheap polarized glasses like you get in the theaters to watch Avatar, Alice, etc. in 3D. The others use current flat screen technology at 240hz, maybe 120hz to alternate the left/right eye images. Shutterglasses are used which use batteries, have communications problems sometimes, and are expensive.

Cheap glasses and very expensive TV, or slightly more expensive TV and expensive glasses.

I was wondering that myself.

Hmm. Yeah I "don't get it" either but I've seen 3D. It's alright. Nothing like having a room full of people looking like dorks wearing those glasses. What about people that already wear glasses? Anywho. Please keep making 3D set so costs on the normal 2D ones go way down. Now that I get

Have you seen the "3d" tv's from samsung? I went to best buy with a buddy who was buying a quattron and needed my truck to get it to his apartment and saw these TVs. No glasses or anything, there was a video of fish. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. I couldn't believe how vivid it was. It was, however 1800 for a 40 inch.

At this point 3D tv is just mostly a marketing thing.

But being able to watch 3D sports or 3D porn is pretty cool I guess.

BTW, Nintendo has the 3D DS with no need of glasses. It has 2 screens. wonder how that is...

I am not impressed with HDTV from a cable broadcast. they compress the signal too much so they can have so many channels, and I think it looks like crap compared to adding a Blu-ray player.

3D is going to blow up because of 3D games, moreso than anything else.

Didn't the old Sega used to have 3D games? And that was when we had tube TVs.
