View Full Version : Bucks trade for Maggs

The Milwaukee Bucks reportedly acquired swingman Corey Maggette on Tuesday in exchange for Charlie Bell and Dan Gadzuric, who will go to the Warriors.
This is quite a steal for the Bucks, and while Maggette's missed-game history is nothing to sneeze at, he's a good player and could help replace John Salmons if he signs with another team.

I guess this is because of Salmons opting for Free agency.

Guess that tells you how confident they were in getting Salmons signed to a decent contract.

There's the Bucks replacement for Salmons, who coincidentally opted out today. He'll be in upgrade from Salmons as he takes on the role of go-to scorer. The Bucks still have one major trade chip to play with Redd's massive expiring contract.

For the Warriors, obviously the appeal is the savings they'll reap from this past next season. They now have two sizable expiring contracts with Radmanovic and Gadzuric. Bell has two years left on his deal. None figure to be in the rotation.

If they draft Monroe (assuming Cousins goes before they pick), then you have to think there's another trade in the offing, as they'd have Monroe, Randolph and Wright all vying for minutes, along with veterans Biedrins and Turiaf. Only Randolph can play the three, so if they're healthy (which is a big if with them), either one established, pricey veteran would be out of the rotation or one highly regarded young player. I don't see either as being a likely scenario.

Still, 3 years and $30 million for Maggette. Ouch.

Feer the Deer!

Good pickup.

they get a guy who gets to the line a ton ...

They will miss Salmons defense and toughness though.

Brandon Jennings, Bogut, Magette not a bad core there on offense defense will be shaky from those 3

Bogut's actually a very good defensive player.

Mags is legit scorer and 10M seems fair in my book. As long as he does not have some kind of athletic decline, he should be fair value imo.

Maggette is all stats, no substance.

I wonder how that changes Golden State's draft approach. I think people were thinking they'd go big with Cousins or Monroe. Does that mean they might look into getting a scoring small forward instead? That would obviously affect the rest of the selections afterwards.

so I guess the spurs can not trade rj back to the bucks......

I'd take Salmons over Maggette. Maggette's the better rebounder and can get to the line, but he's such an idiot that it's not really worth it.

Maggette is a stat monster who averaged 27/8 for a huge stretch of the season after; I got killed by him in fantasy.

It's probably between Monroe (assuming Cousins is gone) and Aminu at this point. You're right though, they lack a true SF, let alone a long term successor at the position. Randolph can play SF, but similar to Odom and other combo forwards, the way the game is going (and considering Nelson's affinity for small ball anyway), I suspect his long term future is primarily at PF. Azuibuke is more of an SG than an SF and Morrow is truly strictly an SG. Aminu would be a nice fit both positionally and stylistically and would leave the PF position open for Randolph and Wright.

Don't they already have like 90 guards/wing men?

Maggs is not a team player and doesn't give a shit about defense. He and Skiles will be certain to clash

Salmons can create his own shot for himself as well as others. Maggs is a put your head down and drive

that's good, becuase the Bucks were BY FAR the worst team to draw FTs.

Until the NBA closes the loopholes on obvious collusion trades like this, I refuse to watch another game.

they're going to be an average team for a long time if they don't spend some cash on a FA like maybe Joe Johnson. i like Salmon's better than Maggette, but neither one of those guys is going to push a team like the Bucks over the top. still, the fans will be happy because they haven't really had shit to be excited about in a long time.
