Ghana didn't score a single goal in the three group stage matches that weren't freebie penalties

still.......

anyway US couldn't have a better chance to get to the Semis.

Uraguay/S. Korea
USA/Ghana

Uraguay is probably the favorite but USA wouldn't have to face the likes of Argentina/Brazil/Germany

Agreed.

This US team is a handfull for any team. I'd actually feel more comfy playing Ghana than the US if we're able to beat South korea

I was impressed with the U.S miedfelders today

They did a great job in the neutral zone, which could be a problem for Ghana since Essien is out

Other than South Korea, I can't think of any team I'd rather meet in the round of 16 than Ghana. Considering the winner of that match would then face the winner of Uruguay vs. South Korea, I'd say the US could hardly ask for a more favorable draw.

Ghana lacks a quality forward with good finishing capabilities, the same as in 2006. At least back then they had Essien and Muntari dominating the midfield. They're probably the easiest of the 16. At the same time, I'm sure Ghana is happy to get USA rather than the other heavyweights.

:tu The U.S. has a realistic chance of being one of the last 4 in the World Cup.

But we gotta take it one game at a time. Let's stomp Ghana and move on.

Same could be said for the other three teams.

For Uruguay, sure. As for the others the path forward is irrelevant, since they're not getting through.

That side is wide open, don't forget that Ghana is from Africa. And they could have easily beaten Germany today.

Wide open? Having seen all 4 teams, I don't think so. The US and Uruguay are much better teams than the other two and thus should advance, though I will concede football is the least predictable of major sports and a miss from the keeper or a bad call from the referee (or several, as Spain learned the hard way 8 years ago vs. South Korea) can alter the natural course of things. But again, very unlikely IMO.

Uruguay is good. It would be no picnic to play them if we manage to get past Ghana. Ghana actually knocked us out the last time we made the knock out phase if I remember correctly.

ghana didnt impress me in the matchup against teh aussies, as long you keep on attacking that defensive line, sooner or later they will fall apart due to mount of pressure

Nah, Germany bounced us in the quaters in 02. Ghana beat us 2-1 (I think that was the score - I know dempsey scored off a beasley cross.) in 06.

Very true--the US team can't afford to rest on their laurels if they want to make the most of this opportunity.

And that starts with not sleeping on the Black Stars.

This can be a dangerous team. I had to listen to the game on the radio on my way to work. They have an opportunity, but they're going to have to get some momentum (which they may have), and play with fire...they have a chance to get to the semis with the way the bracket is. If they can beat Ghana, they'll play either Uruguay or South Korea, another opportunity to win. We'll see.

I hope Altidore can find his rhythm against ghana. He made some good plays today, but quite a few bad ones too.

MannyIsGod
06-23-2010, 06:31 PM
What? Altidore was excellent today. The only poor play I can think of - and admitidly it was a big one - was the poor strike on the open net. Otherwise he has played 3 incredible halfs of football.

The question for me is what its been in the past:

Who starts next to Altidore? I assume Findley will not be that player, but do you go with Gomez or Buddle? Do you slide Dempsy up and play Benny or Edu?

my man, this guy impresses the hell outta me. He's the one that took Ballack out of the WC. He is an ass, but for some reason I would not mind him on my team. He is the Ron Artest of soccer.

Look at this guy, looks like a total asshole....

Did you see the Ghana/Germany game? it was anybody's game, in fact Ghana had the best chances. Are you saying the US is better than Germany? Really, I don't see how anybody can say that any of these 4 teams is clearly better than the other. They are all pretty evenly matched, imho.

the problem is Dempsey has played his best football when he's had a midfield position on the wing. Even though Feilhaber created some chances, our midfield quality dropped when a bit when Dempsey was put up top. What I think Bradley will do is play either Findley/Buddle next to Altidore and have Gomez come off the bench......I wasn't impressed with Buddle at all so it might be Findley again

Man this World Cup is intense.

GO USA!

PS: It's a shame that if both the USA and S. Korea advance, they will have to play each other. Still gonna have to take the USA since I am an American first.
