Well, I don't believe it.

Being a few years old, I'm pretty certain that since I live in Portland, I would have heard something about this if it had any merit.

I will keep an open mind to the slim possibility though.

There's a police report (http://www.scribd.com/doc/33472914/Portland-Police-Bureau-report-on-Al-Gore).
That might be a forgery.

Notice the case number... 07-9568. The 07 indicates 2007, yet the reporting date is 10/24/06. I seriously doubt the case was held over to 2007 with enough time to get 9568 attached.

And, a news report (http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/06/prosecutor_al_gore_was_focus_o.html) from a non-Enquirer source -- even though, say what you will, the Enquirer had Edwards dead to rights.

Hmmm...

this is the hotel the police report has for the address:

Lucia hotel (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&q=400+sw+broadway+portland+or&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=400+SW+Broadway,+Portland,+Multnomah,+Oregon +97205&gl=us&ei=qb8iTKb4D4KTnQfLu43BDw&ved=0CBMQ8gEwAA&ll=45.521077,-122.678954&spn=0.001441,0.002301&t=h&z=19&layer=c&cbll=45.521172,-122.678646&panoid=XG8rBitUr23bmKxFN1rnQA&cbp=12,113.1,,0,-33.18)

It's not a bad place, but I think he would have stayed at a nicer downtown hotel.

All I see is an allegation, confirmation of an allegation, and a suspicious report because of the case number. Considering the plaintiff has not cooperated, I see no merit.

Probably just another bimbo trying to extort money from someone.

Don't get me wrong. Part of me would like to see his global ass go down. I simply don't believe it.

Here's what my local paper has on it:

Prosecutor: Al Gore was focus of sex crime inquiry in Portland (http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/06/prosecutor_al_gore_was_focus_o.html)

some excerpts:

At the time, according to a Portland police 2007 report, the woman reported the encounter several weeks after the incident. Portland Detective Cheryl Waddell said the woman cancelled interview appointments three times, and declined police investigation, saying a civil case would be pursued.

There's no evidence a civil suit had been filed.

In January 2009, the woman returned to Portland police and said she wanted to give a statement. Detective Molly Daul and a victim advocate from the sexual assault unit met with the woman. She reported that she was repeatedly subjected to unwanted sexual touching while in his presence.

She reported she still had clothes that she had worn during the encounter, but detectives never collected them as evidence "because they did not feel there was any evidentiary value to the clothing" given the description of what she said had occurred.

In June 2010, the woman called police, asked for a copy of her statement, and asked if she could edit it. She also advised the bureau she was going to take the case to the media.

Anyone see something fishy:

2006/07: saying a civil case would be pursued.

2010: There's no evidence a civil suit had been filed.

I simply don't believe the allegations. I think someones looking for a payday.

When a police report says the alleged victim refuses to cooperate or report an actual crime, there's good chance the case is going nowhere.

Normally, I would agree. But, with powerful celebrities, there's a tendency to think you won't be believed and, therefore, you don't immediately report.

According the the Smoking Gun (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2010/0624101gore1.html), the complainant has (a' la Lewinsky), fluids on the pair of pants she wore that night.

You know, I despise Al Gore, and in any other city I might believe it. There are plenty of massage ads here that are obvious more than just a massage. If he wanted some companionship, he didn't need to force anything. Portland is the capital of the sex industry here in the states. I'm sure he knows it too, and seriously doubt he's stupid enough to try to force himself on a woman, especially when it's so easily obtained here.

from Bump and Grind (http://wweek.com/story.php?story=6093), which a simple search pulls up:

All this adds up to a town with a varied and vibrant sex industry, whose facets range from sad to sleazy to exuberant fun.

And what of that "most strip clubs" boast? Our Internet survey of Las Vegas, the gold standard of urban debauchery, reveals 30 clubs, which works out to 5.85 strip joints per 100,000 residents. San Francisco, that legendarily libidinous burg, is estimated by SF's adult weekly, The Spectator, to have 17 strip clubs, or 2.2 per 100,000 residents. By comparison, Uncovered and Exotic list 41 strip clubs within the Portland city limits. With a whopping 7.74 clubs per 100,000 residents, Portland solidly trounces these two centers of vice in number of brass poles per citizen. In your face, San Francisco!

The executive editor of the National Enquirer says that the Oregon masseuse who made a sexual assault allegation against Al Gore asked the tabloid for $1 million but that the Enquirer did not pay her or anyone else in reporting the story...

Levine also acknowledged that the Enquirer did not call Gore's office for comment "for competitive reasons" out of concern that the former vice president would issue a statement and the paper would lose the exclusive in the two days before it reached newsstands. Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider confirmed that the paper made no such attempt but declined further comment.

The Enquirer obtained a Portland, Ore., police report in which the red-haired masseuse, whose name the tabloid withheld, told authorities that Gore had sexually assaulted her during a 2006 hotel massage. The woman initially declined to be interviewed by police but reconsidered and met with detectives early last year. The detectives concluded there was insufficient evidence to launch an investigation. The police never sought a statement from Gore or attempted to interview him about the claim...
