it's a stunt, there's too much water polluted for these little machines to have any effect

Each machine does 2,000 barrels per day.

BP bought 32 of them......do the math.

That's a lot of daily cleaning.

Once Costner saves the world, the America people really need to take a step back and show some gd respect for the Movie Wyatt Earp. Tombstone is good but Costner's take is right up there as well imfo.

I believe each centrifuge treats more than that figure...

"proved effective at processing 128,000 barrels of water a day"

that's barrels of water with oil in it, not barrels of oil

The %age of oil in/on polluted water must vary a lot. Hard to say how much water has to be sucked up to remove 1 barrel of oil.

I expect the BP lawyers will use this cheap technial stunt in court to build their case of BPs's "best efforts" and "good faith" to get their penalties reduced by MUCH more than Costner's separators cost.

BP scumbag lawyers: "We're really, really sorry, and we really, really tried"

Business-friendly, Repug judge: "penalty reduced by 90%" (like in Exxon's case).

.... in 2030.

Thanks Chump but again when are they going to have them operational?
Working?

boutons_deux i think Costners machines may be effective but agree with you on British Slimetrolleums motives. Why weren't these machines purchased and installation began the day after the spill? Costners been hawking them for years, well known of.

Concur on some corrupt judge also. I'm sure you saw the drilling ban lifter get exposed for all his oil boi stocks.

They have been using them.

They have to skim the water off the surface before they can use them. they aren't for cleaning up the spill, but separating the oil and water after it's picked up.

Interesting article from the Financial Post. It should piss everyone off but, many in here will just blame Bush, instead.

Avertible catastrophe (http://www.financialpost.com/Avertible+catastrophe/3203808/story.html)

Why does neither the U.S. government nor U.S. energy companies have on hand the cleanup technology available in Europe? Ironically, the superior European technology runs afoul of U.S. environmental rules. The voracious Dutch vessels, for example, continuously suck up vast quantities of oily water, extract most of the oil and then spit overboard vast quantities of nearly oil-free water. Nearly oil-free isn't good enough for the U.S. regulators, who have a standard of 15 parts per million -- if water isn't at least 99.9985% pure, it may not be returned to the Gulf of Mexico.

When ships in U.S. waters take in oil-contaminated water, they are forced to store it.
...
The Americans, overwhelmed by the catastrophic consequences of the BP spill, finally relented and took the Dutch up on their offer -- but only partly. Because the U.S. didn't want Dutch ships working the Gulf, the U.S. airlifted the Dutch equipment to the Gulf and then retrofitted it to U.S. vessels. And rather than have experienced Dutch crews immediately operate the oil-skimming equipment, to appease labour unions the U.S. postponed the clean-up operation to allow U.S. crews to be trained.
Avertible Catastrophe, indeed.

Thank you liberal federal bureaucracies and unions for making the crisis worse.

verification of the Financial Post article?

Find it hard to believe CNN or 60 minutes or someone has not picked up on it if the article is true....

Repugs would be all over it if Obama turned down competent Dutch help?

I am beginning to wonder if the Financial Post article is real or if it's something Rush Limbaugh whispered into the Repug posters ears in a dream.
Speaking of Rush whispering into ears, Wild Cobra where are you reading that the Costner machines are operating?

Outrageous and stunning if the refusal of Dutch and other countries with superior oil sucking capabilities offering immediate help is real. Anyone should rip Obama and any and all obstructionists a new one IF the article is accurate.

Of course. You can always find articles on both sides of the issue. the key is sticking to valid ones, and being careful not to use ones like Common Dreams, the Huffington Post, and others that disregard the truth just for a charged story.

I googled "Ronald Reagan" and "BP" and found some news articles saying Reagan was to blame:

Zombie Reagan obstructs oil cleanup (http://www.pacificfreepress.com/news/1/6461-reagan-rises-from-the-oil.html)

Pictures of Reagan's hand rising from the Gulf like Jaws' fin to stop cleanup (http://www.opednews.com/articles/The-Dead-Hand-of-Ronald-Re-by-Dave-Lindorff-100622-408.html?show=votes)

Yet Faux News and the rest of your Repug media heros and that Brainy Alaska puppet chick have not had clue cards (excuse me cue cards) placed in order to trumpet this article about the Dutch having equipment and people rejected by Evil Voodoo Obama?
No collaboration whatsoever??

Likewise Wild Cobra if you are unable to provide a link to Costners machines being in use I'll consider your source Rush Limbaugh telling you in a dream. However please do not post the rest of your dream involving Rush.
