This should be on ESPN soon but I just heard via radio ESPN 1000 that the Nuggets will trade Melo if he doesn't sign the extension and that the Bulls would be front trunners to trade Luol Deng, Taj Gibson, James Johnson 2 future first round picks.

Despite discussing a contract extension with Carmelo Anthony, sources close to the situation indicate the Nuggets would rather trade him than risk losing him in free agency for nothing.

The Nuggets are attempting to be proactive by securing Anthony to an extension this summer. He will become a free agent on July 1, 2011 if he doesn't sign an extension.

So now we're looking at:

Derrick Rose
Lebron James
Carmelo Anthony
Chris Bosh
Joakim Noah

No way James and Anthony sign with the same team. No legit starting SG and from the rumors spreading around it seems that this would be the backup plan if they fail to sign LeBron.

They have until the next offseason to come up with a deal, so try to keep your load in until then.

If this happens, they should go after Amare for their MAX type FA, then use their remaining CAP to sign Haslem, Frye and Redick...

Add some 3-point shooting, spread the floor for Rose, Melo and Amare, add Haslem for rebounding off the bench.

PG: Rose
SG: Redick
SF: Anthony
PF: Amare, Haslem
C: Noah, Frye

Then fill it out with some veterans minimum contracts for perimeter scoring. Salim Stoudamire would be a good get, as he's averaged 8 ppg in three seasons with Atlanta in the NBA and is a great 3-point shooter. He can be had. Could develop into a poor man's Eddie House.
