About to go to take my kids to Disney for the week so going to miss all this free agency stuff, but I do want to put in my prediction of what the Spurs intend to do.
All the media is proclaiming that the free agents are going to go here and there. I think its Bogus if your team is not going to do a sign and trade for you then you leaving 30million behind; 90million instead of 120million who does that...no one except maybe James who can make that back in endorsements. The next CBA is going to change everything these guys all want to cash in now. The only team with anything left to trade is Chicago and just not sure if tightpurse Reinsdorf gives away Noah's cheap salary for a big unless they will take Deng's contract as well.
So my thinking is that Spurs have their target on two people Bosh and Stoudamire. First thing they have to do is sign Tiago (without a trade kicker) and then make the offer.
Tiago+RJ for Bosh or Stoudamire
Why would Phoenix or Toronto do this?
Lets see young talented big man, just won mvp and championship, oh yah and he is CHEAP as well. You get something back instead of losing your guy for nothing. Also, if your Toronto would you rather have that or Deng+Noah. Phoenix is just looking for something in return I am positive that they would take this trade if Stoudamire refuses to sign for the amount they want to pay. I'm pretty sure most teams would go on potential and Tiago just has alot upside. In fact, if this trade goes down for Stoudamire it could very well be a mistake since he has knee problems but I think the Spurs are wanting to go all in now.
This is what I think are the Spurs plans and I do think they are right in the middle of the hunt for free agents. C'mon CIA POP get 'er done :hat
(Just please keep Tiago if you can't get those two if you deal for Boozer I might throw up)
Spurs are gonna get into free agency soon, with other players and negotiate with their own...-Buford

I predict you should make a reservation for dinner at the Prime Time Cafe in Hollywood Studios. The pot roast and Dad's Brownie Sundae are amazing.

well we are doing several character breakfasts and dinners for the kids my wife has been in ultra planning mode for several months it seems. We just found out it might rain all week..lol. However, prior to kids we did a disneyworld trip in which it lightly rained for two days we took parkas and while everyone stayed home we hit every ride (some of them several times) hopped the parks is was best trip. Hoping if it does rain it will similiar.

Although it would be nice if we had that kind of security in the frontcourt, that would just turn our hole at the 3 spot into Hell.

Let me explain your thesis, and then why it is wrong.

your point: these guys are leaving years on the table by not doing a sign and trade that is a ton of money.
Sure. But, all of these guys are franchise max-money players. Sure, that extra money is important. But you don't think they make it up if they team up, become champions, and get FAT endorsements?
Also, playing with each other takes the load of each. Lengthens their careers. They can play longer and get extensions that make up the difference.
The only thing left undone by all the big max agents: none have rings. That is the big motivation left. They have everything else. But imagine, if 3 guys go to the same team, 3 in their prime all-stars at the same time, that is pretty hard to deny they have a dynasty in their hands. For YEARS if everything goes well.
Why NOT take that? You are still rich as fuck, you get the championships that you believe you deserved the whole time, and the extra fame of that success will also give you added financial benefits making up for the sacrifice of less years on the max deal.
Now, agreed, if it is just one guy sacrificing, in the past that has not happened much. But this is on a different scale. I think we see the NBA remade this summer.

i really think the Spurs should look into sign-and-trades for Melo and Bosh. it's a long shot but we have the pieces (expiring contracts) to move.

we have already seen in the PO that parker-hill-gino can play at the same time for about 12 min/game. are you saying no to a line-up of parker-hill-gino-bosh-duncan? that would be sick. you could easily compromise length at either 1, 2 or 3 spots, given that bosh or duncan are there to help out.
the issue posted here is that bosh does not want to come here. the only chance we have (0.01%) is for bosh to do a sign and trade (b/c he really likes toronto and does not want to leave them with nothing); in addition to that, he is from texas and there is no state tax here. however, it seems clear to me that (at least after reading all the espn propaganda) that bosh would like to play with lebron.
the spurs would be crazy not to sign bosh if everyone else involved says yes.

Yes that was my main point the Spurs have just as much chance to land a premiere free agent as the other teams out there. Using Tiago a talented big man as trade piece. With the backcourt set I'm betting they would go for a big man if anyone. 30 million dollars is alot of endorsement money to make up especially if your the "sidekick."
Why not come to a great team be the star and have Duncan be your sidekick. At least thats how I would sell it if I were the Spurs.

hypothetically speaking, if we trade tiago(mid-level) + rj for bosh (assuming max. contract), we also get about $5 mil. to spend in return. we could easily fill the 36 mins at the 3 spot with a combination of malik-anderson-another 3 wing veteran (think raja bell, delfino - not saying these players, but this type of players)

sorry, but wade/bosh/lebron is >>>>>>>>>>>> than duncan/parker/manu/one of those.
This is because the former has a longer window, with 5+ years of top performance out of wade. The latter has 1-2 years of a very good duncan left. 2 years of good manu left.
And Parker is dependent on speed; how well will he adjust on the other side of 30?
None of these questions reside with the other pairing.
As far as the bulls go, btw, the OP had it wrong. That team can afford 2 top agents; that team is young and would be super loaded with Noah and Rose and 2 top agents. That is a much different scenario than the OP is offering.
If the sign and trade were so tantalizing, the Dallas would be the front runner to get its first pick, b/c they have plenty of trade bait, they are willing to spend, and they have enough talent to trade some and still contend.

Splitter will be signed with MLE.
The CBA prohibits S&T transactions with MLE players.
Splitter's rights can be traded, but he can't be signed and traded.
I predict that with Blair, Splitter*, Duncan, Manu, Parker, Hill, Anderson, the Spurs have a solid foundation.
Free agency, everyone is going to be gunning for the big names. The fact that the Spurs can't afford one of the big names is a blessing, because it automatically keeps them from wasting time with a game they won't win.
The FA class is deep, and Spurs will have all the time in the world to devote to either signing or trading for the role-player guys that everyone else is seeing as an after thought. A guy like Udonis Haslem or Luis Scola won't be a top priority for 75% of the league, and yet he might get a call from the Spurs tomorrow.
My prediction is that Tiago comes over, Andersen is better than expected (except by Vitale), Blair dominates the SL, and Spurs fill out the rest of their roster with minimal-noise signings and a trade or two. Think Steve Kerr made a big splash when the Spurs signed him? Think we'd have four championships if we didn't?

spurs sign tiago splitter for the mle
sign either matt barnes or if really wants to win and acl does not effect him josh howard for the LLE
sign richards but send to austin and extend hairston, temple and gee contracts and get jerrals to play one more year in austin himself
I thought Vitale was high on Anderson?!
Yeah, that's what I meant when I said that. Vitale expects Anderson to "be a star on the Spurs," so a great performance from him won't surprise Vitale.
I still can't believe what I heard him say on ESPN radio. Those were some very praising words, from a very well-connected man. If anyone would know about a player's potential for suck or a hidden agenda, it'd be Vitale.

Ouch, was not aware of that but now that I think of that it makes sense. You don't want teams with big pocketbooks using the MLE to help in trades. Oh well I'm changing my prediction to the spurs signing Splitter and get some roleplayers.
