All in all, not a bad thing for the Spurs that he opted out. If he comes back at market price (a contract starting at $7mil per), that will save the team a significant amount of money and put his pay in line with his performance. If he leaves, well, that's better than keeping him on for an effective cost north of $20 million for the 2010-11 season.

Given that the MLE will be used on Splitter, retaining Jefferson at market price is preferable to seeing him leave and attempting to find a starting 3 using the LLE and minimum contracts.
