Unlikely returns: Roger Mason Jr., Ian Mahinmi and Keith Bogans won't be in silver and black next year.

Mason and Bogans aren't a surprise but didn't we expect Mahinmi to possibly return.?That is a casual way to give the news to us Spurs fans :( :( :(

Mason and Bogans aren't a surprise but didn't we expect Mahinmi to possibly return? Some talked themselves into it; it never really seemed likely.

Onto some other young dude -- I guess. Nothing is written.

a bit of a misleading title.

I don't know why Mahinmi would want to come back. Pop would hardly play him in garbage time with a huge lead, even after letting Ratliff and Haislip go. He has to think his odds getting on the floor are much greater elsewhere.

This thread is why I never post in the Spurs Forum. This loser (Mahinmi) has been a bust from the get-go. Get over it (him). Move on, retards.

I don't know who you meant by "didn't we expect" because, no, WE didn't expect Ian to return. The writing was on the wall very early in the season, this dude was gone. Especially with Tiago coming and the improved play of Blair, there's really no room. When Ryan Richards was drafted, it was just short of screaming "Mahinmi was a failed project for the Spurs, someone else can give it a shot."

This.

Ian's fate was pretty much sealed when the Spurs failed to pick up his year 4 option in October of last year. Posters here didn't want to believe that, and harbored irrational wants/dreams of him coming back, but that was never likely to happen.

OTOH, this is McDonald, so Ian's probably at the Spurs offices signing a new contract right now. :lol

Spurs give up on a promising, athletic center, with potential. Yet break their necks in bringing back a slow-footed, 3-pt chucker who's a liability on defense. Unbelieveable!

The fate of Mahinmi won't be revealed til later in July once all the significant dominoes fall into place.

This thread title is misleading.

This thread title is misleading.

It is funny how people get excited about nothing.

1. These are Jeff McDonald's predictions about the fate of the team's own FAs.

2. We know that Mac has no reliable sources in the organization, which is why he is constantly scooped by media sources outside of San Antonio.

3. His guesses are no better than those of any poster on ST. In fact, history tells us that they may very well be the guess of some poster on ST.

"didn't we expect Mahinmi to possibly return."

Pop telegraphed last year that Mahinmi was out when Pop said Spurs wouldn't be picking up his option. Mahinmi was just practice meat. Maybe he'll get a chance to play somewhere in NBA, or go back to Europe. What a waste of time all around.

You guys blow my mind! Let me get this straight, the idea of RJ doing the Spurs a solid by opting out and re-signing a more palatable (albeit long term) deal is horrible, you are all upset about losing an obvious turkey like Mahinmi, but you are OK with the possible return of the big, red waste of bench space?

I don't get it.

Only if you were in a coma for about the last year. It was pretty damned clear that he wasn't in their plans when they didn't pick up his option last fall.

They normally don't do a press release for players they're NOT going to re-sign.

FIFY. Why does everyone think Richards is coming this year? If the Spurs wanted him now, they'd have worked out a release of his contract in time for summer league.

I can just imagine the press release:
Spurs will no longer pursue LeBron James.
