View Full Version : Idea: Shaq to Spurs?

How would yall feel if the Spurs signed Shaq? Personally, as much as I hated Shaq over the years, I think I could be ok with this.

1. Duncan & Shaq playing at the same time - Duncan banking low post shots, Shaq cleaning up the misses.

2. Defense, nobody is driving with those two standing in the way.

3. I think Shaq could loosin up this team, maybe give them some confidence.

Now I know we shouldnt pay out the a$$ for him, but for a price I think I would definitely consider. He could finish his career in the place he is from with the same amount of rings as TD - 5!

He's washed up. We already have enough aged vets on the frontcourt we depend on. He would only halt Splitter and Blair's progression.

Unlike most Spurs fans, I don't mind Shaq at all..I find him entertaining, and it would be cool to see him with the Spurs, battling against Kobe..

Unfortunately, he wouldn't fit here at all..the frontcourt is already too slow, Shaq would just make it even worse..he's one of the worst team defenders in the NBA right now and he should be used strictly as a bench big man(I don't know if he would accept that role though)..

He could still be useful as a big man off the bench to exploit smaller frontcourts, but not here..

it's all good !

BTW welcome on board, I hope you will enjoy the forum.

For the rest you have a search function and you will see a lot of shaq to the spurs threads, you will figure out what spurs fans think.

for me if it's for the vet. minimum 10 mn a game i'm on the shaq bandwagon. Nevertheless never shaq would accept to play for this kind of salary and role.

1) cloking it up for everyone else? no spacing at all? isnt blair our guy to clean it up?

2) Duncan didn't look good on pick and roll defense in the last playoffs and Shaq has stoped moving on defense several years ago!

3) What confidence? He couldnt win it with LeBron or with Nash+Stat? Its not like somebody missed, that its not 2003 anymore! Maybe he can negotiate some kind of handycap with every opponent just like in his show!

for the vet min its ok...we would sell some jerseys...otherwise NO!

he is from?

That was Shawn Michaels not Shaq! ;)

But he is from Newark...maybe big mutant mark cuban wants to let him play at his home for the 2-3 years they have the team!

Welcome!

Im always more of a reader than a poster, came over here when spursreport went to crap. I actually did a search and the search engine was being slow. But I figured with RJ opting and it being July 1, I would throw it out there.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe he attended HS in SA for a year when his dad was transferred, but yeah, he is not from SA.

if splitter doesn't sign for whatever reason i'd take shaq in a minute. he could play the role sheed played this past year (very limited during the regular season, but pretty solid come playoff time). granted there are plenty of quicker and younger guys i'd rather see in a spurs uni, but as a 3rd or 4th big we could do a lot worse.

shaq did show he had something left in that last playoff series. when the whole team seemed to be mailing it in, including lebron, shaq showed up. he was scoring at will and rebounding. not unlike sheed in the postseason this year. all about the moment for guys like shaq and sheed.

13/5/1blk on 51% shooting in the conference finals is pretty stout. he had that 21 pt / 4 block outing...

doesn't shaq still play gasol decently too? gasol only put up 12/8 on 37% shooting against the cavs this year. i couldn't tell you how often shaq was on him, but i remember him taking it upon himself to muscle him up on d.

blair could really develop under duncan and shaq too.

problem is: Shaq as the 4th big just isnt Shaqs style...Especially not with Timmy still beeing the #1 Big! I rather have a lesser player than him beeing unhappy with his role!

btw.: Shaq didnt play very well in the Playoffs! The other teams just refused to defend him, while cheering for him to take the burden...better than LeBron!

Can he do something for a team? Yes! But only if its a team like Memphis, where he suits better, while not beeing able to poisen the locker room (how can you poisen a lockeroom that saw ZBo for the last season?).

I think he will end up with the Clippers...having a good time with Baron while partying with Kobe every evening!

shaq's noticeably mellowed out a bit over the past year or so imo. he just accepted the smallest role of his career and he knows he's a year older. don't think he had any locker room issues either this past season for a change... he was the first to say it's lebron's team. does he still think he can be the missing piece on a contending team? that remains to be seen. whatever he accepts this offseason should shore that up one way or the other.

11.5 / 5.5 / 1.4 / 1.2 are better numbers offensively and defensively than any spurs big put up not named duncan and boston's defense is better than dallas's and phoenix's. there were times in that boston series were he was as unguardable as ever. boston was just too hot offensively and matched every point. i'd say the cavs perimeter defense was as much to blame as any strategy boston employed to let shaq get his. that, and an overall apathetic display from lebron.

I wouldn't mind him here if the price is real good. We already play a halfcourt game and he wouldn't have to play major minutes. He's already taken a backseat to being number 1 on a team. Also his FT shooting is horrible so he would fit right in.

If you choose Bonner over Shaq you should be taken out back and shot.

Take almost all the problems the Spurs had this year and place them into one player. There is Shaq.

Terrible FT shooting
Torched on the pick n roll
Traffic cone defense
Slow
Lazy
