What? That's retarded, Ghana got their reward they got a PK and got to choose their best guy to take it. Gyan just fucked up. If it were the other way Forlan would've nailed it for the win. tell that to Ghana. I think players will do what they can to win for their team, but there should really be a price to pay. Whichever way you look at it, it was cheating. Call it smart or not, but it was cheating, and I don't think Uruguay should be able to use Suarez for the rest of the tournament. Its not going to happen, but that's what I think should happen.

Your opinion, but regardless of what you say, he committed a penalty and it was handled according to the well-established rules of the game. there are rules and if they are broken, a guy gets penetalized.

Yes it would still be cheating. This is not debatable. What the hell do you think a red card represents? You're ejected from the game for unsportsmanlike behavior. Stopping a certain goal with your hands isn't supposed to be part of the fucking playbook.
The only thing I'm questioning is the punishment should be more severe. There is no question Suarez cheated.
I'm 100% with Manu here... this is like saying going out there and hurting a team's best player on purpose to get him severly injured and out of the game is fair play as long as you get red carded for it

To be fair, thats not like fouling a player - its like goaltending and then having the player shoot free throws.
Well, it would be like in football a receiver streaks wide open in the last seconds of a game, has the defender beaten with nobody between him and the goal line and the defender just stretches out and grabs the guy and pulls him down before the ball gets there. It is a foul, will be penalized, stops the guy from a winning score by illegal means, but they don't just give the guy the touchdown. They call the pass interference and the offense gets another chance at a TD.
Ghana had their best PK taker on the line for the win and he choked. Can't go changing the rules because a guy couldn't finish the easiest opportunity he'll ever have to win a game.

There's so much fail in this post. It's not like Suarez tried to hide the fact that he touched the ball with his hand. He simply used the last recourse he had.
Every last defender that fouls an attacker and gets a red card is a cheater? No.
A guy that dives in the penalty area and tries to confuse the ref into calling an inexistent foul is cheating.

I was obviously exaggerating. I think it's funny you want the dude banned for the finals if by some miracle the Dutch find a way to choke a seemingly gifted semis away. It's harsh enough that he has to miss what would have been the biggest international match of his life.
BTW, I hate how they hand out yellows like candy and dudes are missing the semis for ticky tack shit and tackles, or handballs in the middle of the pitch that don't even look intentional. If they're going to give out yellows so easily they really need to wipe them clean after each match in the knockout rounds. No need for a guy to miss a huge game just for a bad tackle or a hand ball that has no effect on the game.

that replay doesnt show when the ball is kicked so it doesnt show if they were offside or not. i dont remember seeing it offside when it happened but i watched over the net so i might be wrong. there were a couple offsides called on uruguay that werent though, and ghana got away with one earlier (that didnt result in anything). for the most part this ref did a good job though, missing offsides calls is fairly normal in a soccer game and the ones they missed were all close either way.
it does seem to me from that replay, that 6 and 19 fouled the hell out of the guy headering without getting any ball- if anything uruguay is lucky there was only one card on that play.
overall uruguay were the better team, they created more and better chances to score, but ghana gave them a very good fight and uruguay had to scrape out the win by holding on to the tie. never any question in my mind that uruguay would prevail in penalties

Oh maaaan
I'm depressed
The last time I watched such an intense game in the WC was in the 1/4 finals...
......involving another African team I was rooting for.....
Cameron vs England, 1990
What a game; that and 2010 Ghana-Uruguay were epic
Just wow.

My goddam DVR quit recording after the game was over, and I didn't get to see them go in to OT. Is there any place I can catch the OT? Thanks!!!:toast

Uruguay is the weakest team in the final 4. They will get destroyed.

that replay doesnt show when the ball is kicked so it doesnt show if they were offside or not. i dont remember seeing it offside when it happened but i watched over the net so i might be wrong. there were a couple offsides called on uruguay that werent though, and ghana got away with one earlier (that didnt result in anything). for the most part this ref did a good job though, missing offsides calls is fairly normal in a soccer game and the ones they missed were all close either way.
What has when the ball was kicked to do with this offside? At the third second of the video one of Ghana players shoots a header towards the goal. At that point Ghana player with number 10 is offside. The keeper defends the shot and the ball comes dirrectly to that Ghana player (number 10). He was offside before, so he shouldn't be involved in the action (he gained unfair advantage according to the offside rules). When he touches the ball offside should have been called.
Wiki - offside:
Offside offence
A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is touched or played by a team-mate is only committing an offside offence if, in the opinion of the referee, he becomes actively involved in play by
Interfering with play
Playing or touching the ball
Interfering with an opponent
Preventing the opponent from playing the ball by obstructing the player's sight or intentionally distracting the opponent
Gaining an advantage by being in an offside position
Playing the ball after the ball has rebounded off the goal, the goalkeeper, or any opponent
Every Mexican in the world that watches the Mexican league knew Abreu was going to float it in the middle like that. I swear I was screaming at my TV that he was going to do that...too bad the Ghanian goalie didnt study the Uruguayan players' PK tendencies. Nothing wrong with what Suarez did either, he was given a red card for it and the Ghanian's were given a golden chance to win the game. They didnt deliver.
Uruguay is overrated though. Easy road and a couple of breaks had more to do with them reaching this stage than them actually being elite. Holland should destroy them, and would destroy them even if they had Suarez and Lugano.

Oh man that was brutal. Uruguay took Ghana down with them rather than just lose.
Pretty retarded rule. At least NBA goaltending makes sense. It is a cheap tactic akin to hack-a-shaq and intentional fouls. But its the rules.
