Some meaningful records at stake in 2010:

1) Most appearances in a World Cup final

7, Brazil (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Brazil_national_football_team), Germany (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Germany_national_football_team)

Germany can take this record

2) Most appearances in World Cup semifinal

11, Germany (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Germany_national_football_team)

Germany can add one semifinal appearance

3) Most goals scored, overall finals

15, Ronaldo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronaldo) (Brazil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil_national_football_team), 1998–2006).

Klose is now with 14, he has potentially two games to score 2 times.

4) Most goals scored in all Final matches

3, Vavá (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vav%C3%A1) (Brazil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil_national_football_team), 2 vs Sweden in 1958 & 1 vs Czechoslovakia in 1962), Pelé (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pel%C3%A9) (Brazil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil_national_football_team), 2 vs Sweden in 1958 & 1 vs Italy in 1970), Geoff Hurst (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoff_Hurst) (England (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England_national_football_team), 3 vs West Germany in 1966), and Zinedine Zidane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinedine_Zidane) (France (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France_national_football_team), 2 vs Brazil in 1998 & 1 vs Italy in 2006).

To beat this record a player would have to do that in one game. No 2010 players have already scored in a final.

5) Most consecutive matches with at least one goal

6, Just Fontaine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_Fontaine) (France (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France_national_football_team), 1958) and Jairzinho (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jairzinho) (Brazil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil_national_football_team), 1970).

not reachable

6) Most tournaments with at least four goals

3, Miroslav Klose (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miroslav_Klose) (Germany (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germany_national_football_team), 2002–2010).

Klose is a WC beast

7) Biggest margin of victory in a final

3, France (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France_national_football_team) (3) vs. Brazil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil_national_football_team) (0) 1998 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_FIFA_World_Cup) and Brazil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil_national_football_team) (4) vs. Italy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italy_national_football_team) (1), 1970 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1970_FIFA_World_Cup) and Brazil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazil_national_football_team) (5) vs. Sweden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweden_national_football_team) (2), 1958 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1958_FIFA_World_Cup).

If Germany makes it to the final and keeps on playing like that this record could be beaten.

8) Fewest goals per match in a tournament

2.21 goals per match, 1990 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990_FIFA_World_Cup).

record on the verge to be beaten unfortunately

9) Most goals scored in a tournament

13, Just Fontaine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_Fontaine) (France (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France_national_football_team)), 1958 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1958_FIFA_World_Cup).

This one will never be beaten IMO

thoughts ? other WC records than can be taken this year ? what is your favorite record ?

"Ref fuck ups" record has been completely shattered this World Cup. I don't even know if 4 years is enough for people to forget

But back on topic, I hope Klose beats Ronaldo's record. He's been an absolute monster in the wc's

absolutely, normally I'm not a huge fan of Germany (I still have difficulties to swallow 82 and 86) but I have to admit Klose is a classy stud !

Actually, Klose is a douche in that he rests for 4 years in his club, then all of a sudden he gets to work for the World Cup...

yeah but german won't complain about that

I'm sure Argies would prefer an invisible player with Barcelona and a beast in WC

Man, I actually wouldn't really mind Klose passing Ronaldo, mainly because Klose will have done it in one less WC, which is so beasty. He deserves it, idk how he does it lol

But Ronaldo didn't play in 1994 right? So he pretty much did it in 3 WCs as well.

That's actually a very good point, I didn't even seem to think of that. All of his did come in '98, '02 and '06. Still though, Klose is a class act, and if he passes it, I'd have nothing but respect.

Still though, wouldn't mind seeing him finish with 14 or even 15 :lol

Klose was never "shining" like Ronaldo but he has this instinct being the right time in the right spot.

Like the header against australia. Great lift off, great header and having the guts going like that to the ball. Half a second later and the GK knocks the shit out of him one meter above the grass...

That depends if you consider North and South America to be different continents or not.

Nope, it doesn't. Brasil won in Japan/Saouth Korea.

there have been 133 goals scored so far. Since FIFA has had 32 teams the totals are:

France '98: 171
Korea/Japan '02: 161
Germany '06: 147

Only 4 games left to score 14 goals to catch up to Germany '06. That's 3.5 goals/game. Not impossible but I think it will come up just short
