Win/loss in baseball is the worst stat ever kept.

Outside of having an ERA .4 lower than Weaver, Weaver has him beat in pretty much every major category...including leading the AL in strikeouts.

Jered Weaver has pitched more than 7.0 innings in a game exactly ONE time this season. It was in a blowout in Seattle (8-0) and he pitched a whole 1/3 of an inning more. 7.1 innings. Maybe his win-loss record isn't that good because he never makes it past 7.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Andy Pettitte is an AL All-Star -- again.

Pettitte will replace injured Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz for next Tuesday night's game at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.

The 38-year-old Pettitte was added to the team Monday because he was next in line in voting by AL players. The players select five starters and three relievers and Pettitte was sixth on that list.

Gimme a break. He pitches for the team hosting the game and couldn't even get voted in. On top of that, without recent injuries, the AL Manager didn't even want him.

Fans vote for the starting position players then the players vote for the second string position players and the first five starting pitchers and the first three relievers. As I mentioned in a previous post, Weaver was rated as no better than the 7th best starting pitcher by his peers, as Pettitte replaced Bucholz on the team by virtue of finishing 6th in the player vote.

I read an article about Girardi's role. He had seven slots to fill. The first five had to go to players from teams who didn't have any player voted on by the fans or the players. That left two slots totally at his discretion. He took ARod and CC. No surprise there. He also selected the five players on the ballot for the final slot.

Still Weaver gave up way more then his average.
