Garbage man who will be getting too old to do the dirty work. He would fit the Spurs mold, but not in all the ways we'd like.

You have to do better than this. He's not a free agent. How do you propose the Spurs acquire him?

Trade exception acquired via an RJ S&T, plus getting Daryl Morey very drunk?

No idea about that, i'm just explayin my opinion. I think he's a better stopper than everyone we've on our roster, and that we need a solid D player. No chance over Artest..maybe him. Just a thought in my pipe.

dude is a famed defensive specialist, the best defender stilling playing IMHO. and his style resembles Bowen's pretty much so I think he'll be a perfect signing for Spurs. Rockets are refurbishing their squad so a 31-yr old veteran is exactly what they're going to trim.

age isn't an issue at all IMHO. Bowen played at top level even at age 34, when Battier turns 34 Spurs will have already started rebuilding with Duncan being 36 or some. age never has such a big effect as supposed to be on players like Battier who bases his game on skills/mentality rather than athleticism.

everytime i see him play i see a younger/whiter edition of Bruce Bowen, no racism, they're just so equivalently great I mean.

impossible without a trade. Who do you want to trade from Spurs that Rockets want, or that you want the rockets to have?

Rockets do not trade him, he is great for them.

2 years from now, then they want to probably get rid of him. Right now he is perfect for them.

Okay, even if I agreed with all that. The Rockets aren't going to cut him. So propose how the Spurs trade for him. That's all I'm saying.

I threw out a thread saying we should see if we can Larry Brown to bite on a Gerald Wallace trade. He much better fits the Spurs than Shane Battier. Better defensive player too.

GW is nothing more than a younger version of RJ. He can't shoot the three to space the floor, and his best offense is on the break, which we only run as a Tony solo project.

lol. You better be prepared to watch the same Richard Jefferson in a Knick jersey this year. Might be hell for ya. And Wallace just made 2010 NBA 1st team All Defensive. I think he can do the things we need and would be a bit more successful here than Jefferson was. But I hope Larry Brown thinks the same way you do and would be willing to trade him.

Grant Hill would have been a great Spurs player. he stands for everything the Spurs are about. he has class and has the heart of a lion. He was injured most of his carreer and has yet to give up...he comes back and back and back again. And still has a great game at his age.

I am sure everyone here desires to see him in a Spurs uniform, but as stated before, he is not a free agent which complicates things.

I'd definitely welcome Battier on the Spurs. But, please ... don't tell me he's as good or the equivalent to Bowen just because of similar roles and responsibilities on a team -- Shane makes people work, Bruce made them work, crawled inside their shorts and then into their psyche.

Bowen: there is only one.

Correct.

However, I'd take Battier on this team in a heartbeat.

Trade exception from Joyzee. :downspin:

I like Battier too, but if we use Joyzee's trade exaption it has to be for LeBron. Now we only have to confince his new team, that they don't sign him for too much money (so that the TE thing works for us) and then later that they overpayed (with their MLE), so they want to get rid of him.

We can make that work!

battier is highly overrated...just because you put your hand in someone's face--does not make you a great defender..

True. But after what we saw last year it would make you one of the better defenders on this team.

That being said, there's no way to get him so it doesn't matter.

one question to all of you (not saying anything in this regard could happen):

compairing Jefferson and Battier, which guy would you pay more and how much more?

Statwise they are very near to each other RJ has better %tages--except for 3pt%-- and slightly better numbers overall.

I'm pretty high on Battier and the stats dont show his defense...Battier also has more range...two things we really like with our team...I'd say, that I'd give him 2 mio more per year than Jefferson, but that said, I wouldnt give RJ more then the MLE!

u do know those guys havnt done shit in the nba besides receiving inflated contracts?

You do realize Boozer is one of the top players at his position in the NBA..? You do realize that Elton Brand was one of the only 20 and 10 guys around excluding the last 2 years..? You do realize almost everyone on this board was jizzing their pants about the possibility of acquiring Corey Maggette last summer before re-jizzing their pants about the failure of a trade known as Dick Jefferson? You do realize that JJ Redick would help our team immensely with his 3 point shooting and his knack for finding the open man..? You do realize Battier is the best lock-down defender in the NBA (and don't come at me with the bullshit of mr. queensbridge being the best)..? Duhon is a proven backup pg (didn't we need one of those?) Deng puts up better numbers than jefferson, plus he can play defense. We'd be lucky to have almost any Duke alumnus playing in a Spurs uniform.

Battier is a great defender. He puts his hand one inch from the shooters nose consistently. That means he is almost always in the offensive players space. What more do you want from the guy? He is exactly what the spurs need on this team. He can play defense, hit threes, and he plays hard. Unfortunately were not going to get him. However, if we did get him and splitter(assuming he is decent) we would be contenders.
