since its the offseason i think soccer/football also needs its TRANSFER thread just to keep up to date whose going where etc..

so here is the latest rumor

http://www.theage.com.au/world-cup-2010/world-cup-news/chelsea-ready-to-splash-90-million-on-fernando-torres-20100706-zy8m.html

Roman Abramovich has travelled to South Africa to try to sign Spaniard Fernando Torres for a record fee, write Jason Burt in Durban and Rory Smith in London.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has flown to South Africa to try to secure the signing of Fernando Torres for a British-record £50 million ($90 million).

The extraordinary fee still falls short of Liverpool's £70 million valuation of their prize asset in what is set to be a summer of turmoil at Anfield. Javier Mascherano is also understood to be adamant that he wants to leave and Steven Gerrard is still attracting very strong interest from Real Madrid.

Abramovich's presence shows how seriously Chelsea are taking their pursuit of Torres, 27, who is hoping to keep his place in the Spain side for the semi-final in Durban against Germany on Wednesday (4.30am AEST on Thursday) despite a series of indifferent displays in the tournament.Chelsea have long coveted the striker and have spent months discussing the best strategy to sign him.

Their interest will, probably, be rivalled by Manchester City but the allure of playing Champions League football makes them the favourites to secure Torres who wants to remain in England should he leave Liverpool.

Barcelona are also interested but they are struggling to raise the funds while the striker is unsure he wants to return to Spain yet.

Despite a stream of denials by Torres's agents Bahia Internacional - including a statement yesterday by his agent Juan Antonio Martin - both Chelsea and City have been led to believe that he wants to leave this summer.

However, because Chelsea are set to bid below the valuation anticipated by Liverpool, it may mean Torres will have to push for a move that could make things messy.

This year, City's football administrator, Brian Marwood, is understood to have reached an informal agreement by which a bid would be mounted if the club finished in the top four, and qualified for the Champions League, although their hopes have receded.

However, they will attempt to rival Chelsea for Torres's signature, especially having already acquired David Silva from Valencia as part of a huge spending spree this summer which has also led to the arrival of Yaya Toure and Jerome Boateng.

Further signings - including targets James Milner and Edin Dzeko - are expected.

Torres laid down a marker in what is turning into a protracted exit strategy when he said he wanted Liverpool to recruit half a dozen high-calibre players this summer to avoid last season's disappointment.

But he has said he will speak to new manager Roy Hodgson before resolving his future.

Liverpool have already sold Yossi Benayoun to Chelsea for £5.5 million, but the departure of Torres would represent a significant admission by the club that they are struggling to compete, especially if Mascherano - who is wanted by Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan - also leaves.

Matters are complicated by Liverpool's limited finances and the attempts to sell the club by their US owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

Abramovich was in South Africa for the start of the World Cup but has now returned to show Torres and his representatives how serious his intent is.

He is hoping to meet Torres's agents over the next few days. A source close to the deal said last night that the Chelsea owner was "pushing very hard" to complete the deal.

Liverpool meanwhile are believed to be monitoring Maynor Figueroa, Wigan's Honduran international left-back. The 27-year-old, who has spent two seasons at the DW Stadium, is expected to leave for about £6 million this summer but wishes to remain in England.

Steve Bruce, the Sunderland manager who brought Figueroa to the Premier League, attempted to take the player to the Stadium of Light in January and is expected to renew his interest, but may face competition as Hodgson looks to bolster his defence.

Hodgson has just £12.5 million to spend and inherited one senior left-back, the inexperienced Argentine international, Emiliano Insua.

Hodgson, the former Fulham manager, has also been linked with a move for former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva, now with Panathinaikos, while Joe Ledley, whose contract at Cardiff City has expired, is also thought to be under consideration.

LOL this clown aint better then VILLA, yet thats his price tag? wtf

Only for Chivas (which are a big club domestically but insignificant otherwise). It'd be nice for him to get some experience at the highest level, maybe some Champions League matches, etc... He also needs to mature a lot or he'll end up like Giovani bouncing from team to team

this is one of the winless posts you have ever done... He won more than 10 games for them in three years which without being exceptional, it's DEFINITIVELY NOT A FAIL.

Even more so, one of his goals was chosen in one of the best 50 in the history of the club and it was top 20. It was a 40 meter strike to defeat classic rival Liverpool on loss time 1-0. That goal only, made him be loved by ManU fans forever... he missed a lot and had up and downs by WAY far from either being a bust or a fail :wakeup

Man, idk what Man U fans you've been talking to that are in love with Forlan forever. Most pretty much agree that he was a disapointment. The guy comes here after scoring 40 - 91 for Independiente, then only goes on to score 17 - 95 for Man U? To add insult to injury, he then nets a .52 clip in games with his next two clubs over the next 5 years. Fuck that.

It's without a doubt he scored important goals for us, but that doesn't make up for the lack of performance he had with the expectations coming in. It didn't really help his case either that Ruud was destroying teams beside him.

Not saying he's a bad player, overall he's clearly an excellent talent, but it's pretty much generally agreed that he was a flop at Old Trafford

He won't get any exposure staying in the Mexican league. Most if not all Mexican players that are currently in Europe are there because of how they performed with the Mexican National team not their clubs. Playing for Celtic > staying in Mexico. Not sure if he'll be able to use it as a stepping stone for a bigger club though. I think he's good enough to play for a bigger club but he's Mexican. Lets be honest if Salcido was Argentinian or Brasilian-born he'd be in a big club right now after the way he's played in WCs and at PSV especially his first few years. Chicharito wouldve gotten sold for $20 mill to Man U. There's exceptions like Marquez but for the most part alot of Mexicans are overlooked. Sucks but thats the way it is.

Eduardo moves from EPL to Ukraine

OFFICIAL: Arsenal Striker Eduardo Completes Move To Shakhtar Donetsk On Four-Year Deal
By Matt Monaghan

Arsenal striker Eduardo has completed his move to Shakhtar Donetsk on a four-year contract, the Ukrainian club has announced.

Eduardo, 27, has passed a medical and agreed a reported contract of £50,000 a week. Despite struggling to hit top form since his horrific leg break in 2008, the Ukrainian Premier League champions have beaten off interest from Aston Villa, Valencia and Olympique Lyon to wrap up a deal believed to be worth £7.5 million.

A statement on their official website read: "Today on 21 July, FC Shakhtar have signed Brazilian-born Croatian forward Eduardo Da Silva from Arsenal on a four-year contract which has been anticipated by all the international media.

"All the details were agreed tonight at Donbas Arena in Donetsk.

"Within the nearest time the newcomer will be introduced to Ukrainian media representatives as well as to the Pitmen fans."

The Croatia international centre forward had endured a season to forget after scoring just twice in 24 top flight appearances. With Marouane Chamakh brought in from Bordeaux, he has sought a fresh start in Eastern Europe.

on MLS level he should be at the same level as Guillermo Barros Schelotto... he's a club overachiever and NT underachiever... he's cold... plays like a German... very technical though gets the job done... mid field on the right side helping with the creation is when he's at his best.

Most media are dismissing the move to AC Milan from what Ive heard, where did you read/hear that its likely to happen? And the Spurs dont undervalue him I think the manager has even said he has world class talent...Gio just hasnt gotten his off-field shit together. Its not his lack of talent thats keeping him off the field its his conduct off of it. Going to Milan to join up with Ronaldinho probably wouldnt be such a good thing considering that, other than that its a solid move. AC Milan is an important club.

Also what happened to the Salcido to Liverpool rumor? The guy is valued like a 3 million euros, cant believe noone is picking him up that would be a complete steal. If his birth certificate said Argentinian or Brasilian he would be considered one of the best left backs in the world and would have offers all over the place. Damn shame that he might have to stick it out at PSV since he doesnt seem to get along with the manager.

Redknamp doesn't like Gio, and that's obvious. If you don't see that you are blind. He's still holding a grudge from that one night were he got shit faced. Then just this past Christmas the whole team sneaks out to have a party except Dos Santos and Wilson Palacios and all the regulars kept their spots.. If he thinks he's world class why isn't gio in his plans and he's trying to sell him or loan him? Even after Gio pleaded to give him a chance. And the fact that Redknamp is trying to buy Bellamy pretty much shows how he feels about Gio.

And about the rumors, Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just posting what i heard/read online or the radio.

Reports in the Spanish capital on Tuesday night indicate that Real Madrid have agreed a fee of €8 million for Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho.

Ricardo Carvalho has seen his first-team chances reduce

• Carvalho wants Real move
• Chelsea season preview
• Play Premier League fantasy

Spanish daily Marca claims the two clubs have come to an agreement and that Carvalho, 32, will sign a two-year contract at the Bernabeu, with the option for a further year.

If the reports are verified then Carvalho will become Real's fifth signing of the summer transfer window, following Angel Di Maria, Sergio Canales, Pedro Leon and Sami Khedira.

At the weekend, Jose Mourinho suggested that Carvalho's advancing years meant he was unlikely to link up once again with the defender, who under the new Real coach won the 2004 Champions League with Porto and two Premier League titles with Chelsea.

However, Real saw their bid to sign Inter Milan right-back Maicon collapse and while Benfica's David Luiz and AC Milan's Thiago Silva were alternative targets, they appear to have turned to Carvalho in an effort to improve their defence.

Carvalho, who joined Chelsea from Porto in the summer of 2004 for a fee of £19.85 million, recently claimed he has been given permission to leave Stamford Bridge and that he would go to Madrid "swimming or running", such is his desire to be reunited with Mourinho.

The Portugal international picked up a third Premier League title last season but has seen his first-team chances reduce in recent seasons, with Brazilian defender Alex finding favour under Guus Hiddink and then Carlo Ancelotti.

If Carvalho does move to Real then he will join Joe Cole, Michael Ballack, Deco and Juliano Belletti in leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.

Exclusive: Fulham set to sign Algerian World Cup defender

Mark Hughes is set to make Algeria defender Rafik Halliche his first signing at Fulham.

The 23-year-old centre-back left his country’s training camp last night to fly to London for a trial before completing a £1.8m deal.

Halliche, who helped hold England to a goalless draw at the World Cup, is a Benfica player but has been loaned out to fellow Portuguese club Nacional for the last two seasons. Arsenal were linked with the Algeria international last month.

Halliche, who will miss tonight’s (wed) friendly with Gabon, said: “I am a Benfica player but I am leaving and I haven’t yet signed for another club. I turned down Guimaraes because I think I will have better offers before the end of the transfer window. As for Fulham, Arsenal and all the other clubs mentioned, all I can say for now is that there is nothing finalised.”

Liverpool interested in Gio

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is rumoured to be interested in signing Tottenham youngster Giovani dos Santos but may face a tough time persuading Harry Redknapp to sell after he gave the Mexican international his second taste of first team action in almost two years at the club.

After a promising World Cup the former Barcelona man has been linked with moves to the likes of AC Milan and a potential return to Galatasaray, where the youngster played on loan last term but the White Hart Lane boss seems to be trying to make extra use of the 21 year old but it may not prove enough to keep the playmaker happy.

Interest from the Anfield outfit may prove tempting for the youngster who has struggled to persuade his boss of his value. Redknapp may be against selling to a top four rival or indeed may try to use the talented midfielder more often but it does seem that the Monterrey born starlet will find it very hard to get a regular spot in the starting eleven, such is the strength in depth at the north London club.

Napoli Set To Sign Benfica's Hassan Yebda

Date: 20-Aug-2010

Ambitious Serie A side Napoli are on the verge of landing midfielder Hassan Yebda from Portuguese champions Benfica on a season-long loan deal, according to latest reports.

Il Corriere dello Sport claims that the Azzurri have reached an agreement with Benfica and that they will retain an option to the sign the Algerian on a permanent contract at the end of the 2010-11 season for €4.5 million.

The 26-year-old played for Portsmouth last season and has returned to Benfica for the new Liga Sagres campaign. However, Yebda's place in the team is not guaranteed as the Portuguese giants have other options in midfield.

Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri has lost Luca Cigarini to Sevilla this summer and is on the hunt for a replacement

EFRAIN JUAREZ is being tracked by Arsenal just FOUR GAMES into his Celtic career.

SunSport can reveal Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was impressed by Juarez in the Emirates Cup.
And he has asked the midfielder's pal and Gunners striker Carlos Vela about the £2million Celt who is fast becoming a fans favourite.
Vela has spoken highly of Juarez who has netted in each of the Hoops' home Euro ties this season against Braga and Utrecht.
Now Wenger is going to monitor the Mexican ace - signed in July from UNAM Pumas - ahead of a January window swoop.
Juarez, 22, starred for Mexico at the World Cup and was linked with Premiership clubs before joining Celtic.

Milan And Barcelona Finalise Zlatan Ibrahimovic Agreement - Report
By Adam Scime
Milan have reached an agreement with Barcelona for the transfer of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The transfer saga appears to be nearing an end after agent Mino Raiola had earlier announced his client was very close to joining the Italian club.

The Spanish giants have reportedly agreed to a one-year loan, with the Rossoneri having the option to buy the player after that with instalments over four years.

It was originally believed to be three years, but the Blaugrana made the concession in order to offload the Swede's high salary as well as a potentially unhappy player.

The transfer fee will reportedly be in the region of €40 million. Meanwhile, he will sign a four-year contract and earn in the region of €8-9 million per season at San Siro.

It is expected that Ibrahimovic will be in Milan on Saturday and all the necessary paperwork will be filed to complete the transfer.

Midfiedler secures loan move to Napoli

Hassan Yebda will play for his third league in three years as the midfeilder will test the waters in Italy with Napoli.

The move comes as little surprise as the Algerian international never figured into Jorge Jesus' plans as the player spent last season with financially distressed English club Portsmouth.

Due to Pompey's dire economical situtation, the now Championship outfit could not afford to hold onto the former Le Mans player, forcing him to return to Benfica.

Napoli do have the option to make the deal permanent should Yebda impress at the Stadio San Paolo.
