Id sign him for the MLE.

he would be a fantastic backup for Dirk and Haywood both. give the mavericks a lot of length and versatility, since he can play both 4 and 5.

Because aside from the 2 handful that are legit, that's all there is in the NBA.

In today's NBA and with his knees, I think he's more of a center because he certainly doesn't have the mobility or quickness to consistently play PF in today's NBA, especially with the rising number of quick and perimeter-oriented combo forwards playing PF now, the likes of Lamar Odom or Josh Smith or Rashard Lewis or Antawn Jamison.

I don't get this. For only a portion of the MLE, they can get him as the backup PF/C, and he would probably instantly be the best backup PF/C in the NBA, a guy who can also step in and start and give some decent production if someone like Dirk goes down.

I'd rather they go after Gortat.

Jermaine O'Neal as a backup would be great for all 30 games he'll play.

If we get him as a backup fine. But a Dirk/Jermaine frontcourt will probably work as good as a Bosh/Jermaine combo did, defensively.

And we fuuuukkkked if Jermaine O'neal is our big acquisition for the summer.

getting O'Neal is good only if the Mavs keep Haywood. If they get O'Neal with the thought that he'll replace Haywood, that's stupid. You need them to be a center tandem.

tbh I'd still rather do DUST/Jet for Iggy/Brand, keep Haywood, and forget about JO.

I'm starting to like this trade. And I think theres more than just money that makes this appealing to Philly. A Jet/Turner backcourt could actually work.
Do it Cubes.

I still kinda would like it if the Mavs could pull off the Haywood for Beasley/O'Neal SnT

Then trade Dampier, Terry, and filler for Al Jefferson

Sign Bell

PG - Kidd, Beaubois
SG - Butler, Bell, Jones
SF - Marion, Beasley
PF - Nowitzki, O'Neal, Najera
C - Jefferson, O'Neal

I think that's a very balanced team. Good defenders, scorers, shooters, rebounders all over the place. And a very versatile and deadly PF/C trio of Dirk, Jefferson, and O'Neal. If Dirk went down for a while, Jefferson could pick up some slack, and Beasley is capable of playing PF and scoring some points as well. You also have plenty of youth for the future, in Beaubois, Jones, Beasley, and Jefferson.

I would be very happy if this was the general lineup that the Mavs entered the 2010-11 season with.

If Mavs are going to take on those to horrible contracts Philly has to take something back...ie Marion's contract for sure. Keep Terry & Caron for now...maybe trade them before the deadline if need be

I can see that too. The cool thing about that squad, is the extreme versatility. Butler is a 2/3. Bell is 2/3. Beaubois is 1/2. Beasley is 3/4. Marion is 3/4. O'Neal is 4/5. Jefferson is 4/5. Dirk is 4/5. The team can go very big, very small, or simply be balanced. And when Dirk goes out, Jefferson can move to 4, and O'Neal can play 5, and they will still have plenty of scoring on the floor, despite no Dirk. I would LOVE to see this lineup.

tbh its not my ideal situation and would rather trade for Iggy or another pure SG. Then Roddy can be the primary backup at point and reduce Kidds mpg by a good amount.

You don't see me trashing Amare do you? I never trashed Tim Thomas when he went to the Mavs, did I?

I trash Marion and Bell because they both quit on the Suns to force a trade. Their careers ended on a really sour note with Phoenix.

RobMahoney: Hopes for Mavs: Re-sign Haywood, pick up Jermaine O'Neal using part of MLE, trade Damp for shot-creating wing (Iggy maybe?)

Would still be a fine lineup.

Kidd/Roddy
Iggy/Roddy/fuckface
Butler/Marion
Dirk/Oneal
Haywood/Oneal

Did you invest too??? Check this out. I got a business plan that could get us rich in 6 months if you down. Just give me $1000, you bring six people to do the same, they bring six people to do the same, so on and so on. I'll invest the dough in some high quality shirts with the new Mavs logo that no one even knows about. Trust me, I'm ahead of the curve on this one. Get in before it's too late, bump.

If oneal is the backup then that is perfect, he can play the backup 4/5 and we won't have to rely on Najera. If Haywood doesn't sign, I can see RC starting him which would be terrible for the mavs

They better not offer him a Diop deal... It better be for part of the mle and 2yrs max

Kidd's going to get burned by some fast point guards if the Mavs play him and Iguodola in the back court. Plus Beaubois will have another guy playing a head of him.

How did JO get so.... bad.... so fast?? The guy is just 31 years old.

Zelophehad
07-07-2010, 10:52 PM
I'm conflicted about adding Iguodola. He's a very underrated defensive player, really he's one of the best perimeter defenders in the league but he would just provide another guy to eat into Beaubois minutes. If we could send out Jet and Barea that would be much better. Then Roddy could back up the one and the two.

jacobdrj
07-07-2010, 10:53 PM
I don't know if anyone bothered to actually watch the heat and JO last season but JO is completely cooked. he is done. He is not 'relatively bad' or 'not playing up to his potential/contract'. He just sucks. I have never seen such a tremendous fall from such a smart defensive player. Unless it is simply an issue of a player trying to do too much (as he was probably trying to be the 2nd option last season) he is just dead weight. I would think twice before even signing him to the veterans exception...

Roddy Beaubois

Roddy would be Kidd and Iggys primary backups. He would still get around 20 mpg. And he would dig more into Kidds minutes depending on how he plays.
