Agent: Nets, Outlaw agree to deal

Forward Travis Outlaw has agreed to a five-year, $35 million deal with the Nets, his agent, Bill Duffy, told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.

The 25-year-old Outlaw averaged 8.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 23 games for the Los Angeles Clippers after being acquired as part of a trade that sent Marcus Camby to the Portland Trail Blazers. In 11 games for Portland last season, Outlaw averaged 9.9 points and 3.5 rebounds.

Drafted in the first round by Portland in 2003, Outlaw has averaged 9.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in seven NBA seasons.

Terrible contract. Nets would have been better off keeping CDR for a shitload less

hey, he might not be the best player, but at least the stupid Net fans that were complaining to me that Nets didn't do something can stop complaining.

It's terrible because there were expectations of LeBron signing there.

But the contract itself isn't terrible. That's basically the MLE. Outlaw is worth the MLE. In this market, if he hadn't been injured last year, he'd probably be worth quite a bit more than the MLE.

It just seems terrible because they're conceding they have no chance at LeBron.

see I as a fan I could careless about winning 17 games, if we suck we suck. Overpaying player is what I was worried about. i guess we could of overpayed him a whole lot worse. So I'm not that made still a little disappointed about the contract though, but with a lockout coming it could be worse

I guess I don't see your point. If the Nets could have signed LeBron, don't you think they would have? They got a guy who probably is actually worth the contract he's getting after realizing they weren't getting a big name free agent.

What you proposed as an alternative, while less financially costly, doesn't net them any more wins either.

Well at least the Nets aren't like the Knicks, they don't trade away their only good players to get in this position, so in a way yes Nets are giving up on Lebron, but the future if bright and if you don't see that you reallty know nothing at all about them, they have talent, sometimes it takes a couple years to build a great team, Boston sucked before they got better.:toast
