Broadcast viewership hits record low
Americans avoided television in historic levels over the past week.
CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox together had the smallest number of prime-time viewers last week in two decades of record-keeping, the Nielsen Co. said. Given the dominance of the big broadcasters before then, you'd probably have to go back to the early days of television to find such a collective shrug.

Not surprising. Viewership has been trending toward cable for years. It's summer, and the broadcast networks are still clinging to the sweeps model, loading all of their good programming into the fall and spring months. Meanwhile a lot of cable networks are launching their premiere shows right now.

So many choices now. I'd rather troll CC than watch whatever ABC has on. Now that Lost is done I'm pretty sure I won't watch any network TV when it actually airs. I'll catch stuff like the Office online.

almost 80 years of crony-ism and corruption from the unethical illegal usurping of the airwaves by the FCC has finally been circumnavigated by the advent of the Internet. Freedom of speech is finally realized. Who the hell wants to watch NBC/CBS/ABC when you have so many options, much like there were before the FCC immorally handed the airwaves to a few mega-corporations?
