I think there were 3 references to the spurs, mainly Tim Duncan, but he talked about avery johnson, david robinson, manu, tp
he respects those who came before them and did it better than him(and who swept him)

Sure. Lebron respects winners. It's a shame he doesn't have the stomach to be one himself.

He said this in the context of a question about basketball history. He was just rattling off all the great teams and their star players who had won multiple championships. It was pretty impressive actually.

That sentence was very important I think!

The fact that he chose Miami goes against all the "billionaire wannabe", "choozen one"... but it means that he is willing to put his ego aside to win championships!

I respect that!
I don't think this big 3 will win against Boston or the best of the west though...

I know you spend a lot of time studying NBA history, and obviously in NBA, greatness is measured in championships, multiple. Did you think this was the chance to give you the opportunity to win multiples? You have guys out there like, in your own generation, like Kobe Bryant, of course, with five championships. How much was looking at your peers with multiples, how much did that influence this decision?

Well, I think knowing the history of the game, knowing the history of the game. And since 1980, you look at all the teams that won, the Lakers teams, the Pistons teams, the Bulls teams, the Spurs teams, the Celtics teams, it's not just been one superstar that go out on the court and dominate the whole game and win an NBA championship. It hasn't.

You know when Magic played, he had Kareem and Worthy. When Bird played, he had Dennis Johnson and Kevin McHale and also Robert Parish. And Jordan was great. He also had Pittman. And he had Horace Grant as a great player. In the early '90s or mid-'90s he had guys like Toni Kukoc and Dennis Rodman with the Piston teams, with Isiah Thomas and Bill Laimbeer.

I mean, I could keep on going, with Tim Duncan and Avery Johnson and David Robinson. You move on, we had Tony Parker. This is a league, you become a superstar individually but you become a champion as a team. And I understand that, and I know the history of the game.

He would look totally out of touch with reality if he didn't respect the team that swept his ass out of the finals. All in all though he made the right move. Kinda proved he is more concerned with winning then being "the man" as he was in Cleveland.

no shit...fuck lebron...he doesn't respect anyone but himself. he's pointing to our teams to give himself and the rest of you, an excuse for joining two super stars. i'm sorry but avery johnson was no all-star.

You know what? That actually impressed me too. I thought he was gonna stop short when he got to the lakers reference. That he specifically mentioned the team members (by name) that whupped that ass in '07 was pretty cool of him, IMO.
