View Full Version : So could Colt McCoy replace LeBron to save Cleveland?

I think as soon as Holmgren and Mangini gives him a chance, McCoy could be the next best thing to come to Cleveland since LeBron James. In fact, I think this is a blessing in disguise for him.

Illiterate? The guy is a much better player than Oden, therefore it was a stupid decision to draft Oden before Durant. That's like saying "It's ok Portland drafted Sam Bowie before Jordan...they needed a big man." No..it's fucking not ok. Oden is a crippled waste of bench space while Durant is a 30 point per game scorer, alone with 7 boards, and takes games over. One guy is a future MVP while the other will be spending more time in a suit with crutches in his career than he will on the court. He's played as many games in his career as Durant did in just the regular season last year. But yeah...totally makes more sense to draft Oden...Blake..your blind hatred for the Horns really makes you look like an idiot sometimes.

Why would Portland take Durant over Oden in the draft? Why would they not want to team up Aldrige with Oden?? I dont get how you can say they should have taken Durant over Oden?
Greg Oden has one leg longer than the other. Should have been a warning sign right then and there.
Plus, Durant was a better player in college. All 30 GMs would not have passed on Durant for Oden. It was about 50/50.
The Blazers passed up Larry Bird with the #1 pick. They passed up Jordan with the #2 pick. And they passed up Durant with the #1 pick. Two of those players are top 10 players ever and Durant is well on his way to being an all time great (maybe not top 10 but top 25 perhaps?).
Yeah, they blew that one. Could have told you that back when the pick was made.

I said on his way, perhaps. I didn't say he was a top 25 player. However, I'm not judging Durant because I'm a Longhorns lover. He wasn't even really a Longhorn. 1 year doesn't do much.
As an NBA player, Durant is an unbelievable talent. I've heard Jared Dudley (The Suns lone defensive player) say Durant was the hardest guy in the league to guard because he can hit shots from anywhere on the court, get to the rim at will, and can shoot over anyone in the league with his size and length.
And Durant is a pretty good defender too. And by all accounts, he's a gym rat who works on getting better every day. Oh, and he's humble too (see his Twitter post saying he signed an extension while Lebron was holding a 1 hour special to say he was going to South Beach).
Durant has all the tools to be an all time great. You can't doubt that. But usually what separates the really good from the great is drive. And what separates the great from the all timers is the willingness to do something about it. Durant has that willingness.
Lebron has the talent, physical skills and freakish athleticism coupled with his size to be the best ever. But he doesn't appear to have the drive. Durant appears to have the drive to win.
Anyone who watches the NBA can see that, whether they love or hate the University of Texas.
And back on topic, McCoy is not the savior. He was a great college player and has some tools to play in the NFL, but I don't think he's starter material. I will say this, he's going to be better than Tebow though.
I hate OU, but Bradford was the better pro prospect.

Again, Durant is hardly a Longhorn. He went for 1 year, bolted and has no intention of graduating from the University of Texas. McCoy was a 4 year player for the Longhorns. He's a Longhorn through and through. Play for the school at least 3 years and you can be called a Longhorn. 1 and done just doesn't cut it in my book.

"Colt McCoy, the former Texas star who won more games than any other quarterback in Division I history, began his pro career midway through the second quarter after Wallace finished two of his three drives with touchdown passes.
McCoy’s night ended like his last appearance for Texas, a trip to the locker room for tests.
This time, he banged his hand on the back of a teammate’s helmet following through on a pass. The third-round pick was knocked out of the BCS championship game against Alabama with a pinched nerve in his throwing arm.
McCoy finished 5 of 10 for 25 yards with two interceptions against the Packers. He added 25 yards scrambling from trouble."

Oh, and Durant was hardly a Longhorn. While the following players weren't the player Durant was, they definitely go down as being Horns unlike Durant: Aldridge, Augustin and Abrams to name 3 recent players. All of those guys spend more time at UT than Durant.
And if I was such a Horn homer, wouldn't I be praising McCoy as the next great thing?

tbh its not unfathomable to think Nathan Explosion wanted Durant, but its retarded if he thinks other people didnt want Oden over Durant.
After going back and reading articles and columns, the thinking was big man over swing man. BUT, the thinking was that Oden could be a force in the paint for years, completely ignoring what had come out during the workouts, that Oden HAD ONE LEG LONGER THAN THE OTHER.
Have you seen people who have this condition? I work with one. He has to have special shoes and still walks in an odd sort of manner. Oden walks the same way from what I've seen. The athlete's body is a fine tuned machine. Nothing can be off or it throws the whole system out of whack. It's like playing with a foot injury. Sure, you may be able to tolerate the pain, but the body overcompensates by placing more stress on other parts of the body.
I don't claim to be smarter than most NBA GMs out there (I do bet I could do a better job than the Grizzlies man. I mean, Pau Gasol anyone?), but sometimes these guys outsmart themselves. 9 times out of 10, you take the big man. I get that. You win titles with a big man. Name me a non-Jordan team that won without a big man.
But the 10th, it could be Bowie over Jordan, or it could be a big man who has a physical condition that throws his entire body out of whack, like having one leg longer than the other that affects his stride. And when you spend a lot of time running, planting and jumping, having a stride that's off is a BIG red flag. Any GM should have seen that and immediately had alarms going off. But they ignored the alarms and tried to do the simple thing which wasn't so simple because of the physical condition. They outsmarted themselves.
Not only that, but the main comparison I remember people making was Oden to Ewing. Ewing was a dominant college center, but was overrated as a pro. Then some were saying he rebounded like Russell. Really? He was an athlete like some hadn't seen, quick, strong and agile. Not unlike DRob, Hakeem or even Dwight Howard to name some recent players. That he was the best big man prospect to come out since Duncan. Again, I mentioned Dwight Howard in there whom everyone said the same thing. Except, Howard IS a perfect physical specimen.

Disagree...Durant has said on several occasions that no matter where he goes, he'll always be a Longhorn...even while in Oklahoma City...and I'm sure we'll claim him.

:lmao what the fuck does this have to do with the fact Oden was the near consensus #1 pick in 2007?

OK, so you admit nearly all mock drafts/analysts/GMs had Oden going over Durant.
Thanks for playing.

In fairness to 90210, of all the UT nuthuggers on this site, I think the amount of them that actually went to UT can be counted on one hand.

That's the same reason I follow the Aggies. I'm not a huge fan because now that I'm a UNT alumnus I root for the shitty Mean Green.

• Plain Dealer Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot checks in from Berea, right after coach Eric Mangini's meeting with reporters this morning. Mary Kay says the Browns will have to make decisions soon on what the 2010 season will hold for Colt McCoy and Brett Ratliff, who are battling for the No. 3 quarterback spot. Both figure to play a lot in the fourth preseason game; the starters figure to see much of the time on Saturday when the team plays its third preseason game at Detroit against the Lions at 5 p.m

so if they go with Ratliff for the #3 QB, will they keep four or will they actually release Colt?

I thought college was the devil? I doubt UT advocates torturing and sodomizing Iraqi POWs, so I'm not sure why you'd cheer for them.

The jackass who "reported" that Colt was on the bubble had no sources. It was his opinion based on how Colt has looked, which is fucking terrible. But you don't cut your 3rd round pick after you've announced that he's not going to play at all this year and due to that desicion have given him very few snaps in practice. Although, it's Cleveland. Who knows?

common sense would seem that would be the case

that.
There are a few teams that fit that 'who knows' category..... Cleveland.....Oakland......

quality time to start Pitt's D, tbh imho.
I saw Colt McCoy in preseason and he looked HORRIBLE and now he's facing a Steelers defense in midseason form.
This game is gonna be such a joke.....over under 5 ints?

Overall, pretty impressive performance going against that defense as a rookie playing in his first game with no Cribbs or Massaquoi. Disappointed that he didn't get to play catch with his daddeh.
