Matt Bonner a lock to be in the rafters?

Now that we know that Bonner is locked up for yet another 4 more seasons, that will give him about 8 years in uniform. But that's just a start, he could till be re-signed after the forthcoming deal.

Clearly he'll have a lot going for him in his favor. He'll retire a Spur legend with a ring from 2007.

And he is beloved by Pop and RC.

Will you be there the night the Spurs raise his banner high?

More like a jersey over the deli sandwich shop opened in his honor in the food court at AT&T Center.

I can't believe we're throwing this dog a bone while we wouldn't offer the vet min to Bowen last season, a true Spurs legend.

the proof is in the paycheck.

Matt Bonner is on course to make about just as much as Bowen did in his tenure with the Spurs. From totals to yearly average, it's nearly the same if the current deal is as reported.

Bonner is a key piece for the Spurs and couldn't be allowed to fall into some other team's hands.

What did Bowen ever do? Get benched for Finley and stuck in Pop's doghouse, that's what.

There you go.

Nothing in my first post was being sarcastic or a joke in any way.

I'm serious.

Matt Bonner is likely to have his jersey retired. 8 years + the 07 ring + love from the powers that be = Rafters.

The Spurs are pretty conservative with the number retirement. I think Bruce Bowen is next. There are lots of former Spurs that stayed with the club for a good number of years that don't have their jerseys retired.

I don't think you're serious, but if you are we are going to need a slab of salt for your threads.

Malik = Pop's doghouse. Malik = big contract given to him grudgingly only to keep him off the Lakers.

Bonner = Finley-love. Bonner = big contract given to him lovingly to keep him on the Spurs.

I seriously hope not.

I rather see Finley get his jersey retired instead of Bonner and I'm even against the idea of Finley's being hung.

Unless he turns into Robert Horry AND starts putting up 15 points a game and averages .400 + in the postseason from 3 and isn't gun shy and at the same time he learns how to not only play solid d at power forward, but he becomes quick enough to where he can play what should be his more natural position, SF, then...no.
