Turkoglu and Childress to the Suns.

I'm surprised that they aren't also in the Mahinmi sweepstakes!

They both suck. Turkoglu was really bad last year, just as Childress sucked in Europe.

Ian makes a lot of sense there, but Dallas would probably outbid them even if they were making overtures.

Turkoglu will play PF with Suns. Spurs won't have another choice than going small to match it.

If this trade has an impact on Spurs, it will push them even more to get a vet SF with either the LLE or a min contract.

Without Amar'e they're seriously downgraded though. They can sign whomever they want, they still probably get worse from last year.

No Amare no worries, they most likely won't make the playoffs. Ian was my choice too for them to pursue, he would probably fit their system nicely

They don't have an inside game since Amare left so they need to try to do it from the outside. :hat

Suns are going out and adding Turkoglu and Childress. We're getting Matt Bonner for four more years. Yep, the window has closed :td

It doesn't matter, with no inside game our defenders can stick to their 3pt shooters like white on rice.

As long as the Suns have Steve Nash and a couple of screen/roll options to go with their outside shooters, they can still inflict damage to the Spurs.....especially if the Spurs switch their screens like they did in the 4-game playoff series. The Spurs don't have trouble scoring on PHX and they won't this year, either, but that wasn't the reason they lost the series.

I doubt PHX will be as good even with great chemistry, but with Nash they are still deadly. Ask George Hill, Nash's new best friend.

You want to pay turkoglu 4 years 44 million?

Why not? He can produce a hell of a lot more than Bonner can :lmao

I really can't believe you're trying to defend re-signing Bonehead but are trying to ridicule this move by Phoenix. Just goes to show how little you know about hoops.

Can't wait to watch Hedo and Childress taking turns using Bonner as a turn style this year...

This is the same Hedo Turkoglu that is out of shape, killed chemistry in Toronto and has an albatross of a contract right?

Both teams have windows that have closed and both teams have front offices that are living in the past. The Suns off season has been a disaster, they let Amare leave and are now think Warrick/Turk will be an adequate replacement. Every other Spurs fan on this site is scoffing this trade (as they should be), Matt Bonner was a retarded contract but nothing worse than Hedo's. Spurfan should by no means be happy with how their team is running things, but the Suns are way worse now.

Just to give you an idea of how much turnover that team has had...

Today's the end of an era. My close friend Leandrinho leaves the Suns making me the last player from 04-07. Great memories. Boa sorte irmao!

Would be interesting to know how Nash felt about them trading one of his really good friends on the team.

:lol @ Toronto screwing the trade up for themselves getting diaw.

Trade: Diaw, Chandler to Toronto; Calderon to Charlotte

The news out of Toronto and Charlotte is that the deal — which is part of the Turkoglu/Barbosa trade as well – is all but complete: “The Charlotte Bobcats are close to sending Boris Diaw and possibly Tyson Chandler to the Toronto Raptors in a three-way deal including the Phoenix Suns that would acquire point guard Jose Calderon and at least one other player, a source from one of the three teams involved confirmed … The financial gains are significant. Barbosa has two years and $14.7 million left on his current contract; Diaw has two years and $18 million remaining and Chandler will be paid $13.1 million this coming season. Turkoglu still had four years and about $40 million left on his deal and Calderon has three years and almost $30 million left to go.”

Wow, taking on Hedo's contract will set the Suns 2-3 years behind.

LAS VEGAS - The Suns are on the verge of acquiring forwards Hedo Turkoglu and Josh Childress, swiftly rebounding from the loss of Amar'e Stoudemire with two impact players.

The Suns would send seven-year veteran guard Leandro Barbosa and late-season addition Dwayne Jones to Toronto for Turkoglu, a 6-foot-10 forward from Turkey with versatile skills to shoot from long range and be a playmaker. Toronto would then move Jones and its trade exception from the Chris Bosh sign-and-trade deal to Charlotte for former Suns forward Boris Diaw.

Phoenix will send a 2012 second-round pick to Atlanta in a sign-and-trade deal for Childress, who will leave Greece for a five-year, $33 million contract to play for the Suns.

Turkoglu, 31, has played 10 NBA seasons with four teams and wanted out of Toronto after being unhappy there in the first year of a five-year, $53 million contract. To come to Phoenix, Turkoglu is yielding about $5 million of his trade kicker and reducing the guaranteed money on the final year of his contract, which was worth $12 million in 2013-14. He also has an early termination option on that season.

Turkoglu will make $9.8 million, $10.6 million and $11.4 million salaries in the next three seasons while Barbosa, coming off his career's worst shooting season, was owed $14.7 million for the next two seasons.

Turkoglu averaged 11.3 points last season on 40.9 percent shooting, his lowest scoring average and shooting percentage in six years.

Two seasons ago, Turkoglu was the NBA's Most Improved Player when he averaged 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.6 assists for Orlando and followed it up with a 2008-09 season with averages of 16.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists with the Magic.

Turkoglu could become the Suns' starting power forward in place of Stoudemire, allowing new acquisition Hakim Warrick to come off the bench with Childress, Channing Frye, Jared Dudley and Goran Dragic.

Turkoglu nearly became a Suns player in 2004, when he had an agreement in principle with then Suns General Manager Bryan Colangelo and was in Phoenix when Orlando called with a better offer. This deal was negotiated between Colangelo and Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver, who had an ugly split in 2006 when Colangelo left Phoenix midseason for Toronto.

Phoenix must acquire Childress from Atlanta, which still has his rights after he left the Hawks and the NBA to take a three-year, $20 million deal with the Greek team Olympiakos in 2008. The Suns are using $6.5 million of the trade exception acquired in Friday's Stoudemire trade to make the deal work without sending Atlanta a player of similar value. Phoenix also used $4 million the trade exception to acquire Warrick in a sign-and-trade deal Friday.

The Suns have about $5.7 million of the exception remaining after the Childress and Warrick deals.

Childress, 27, is able to leave Greece early to sign with the Suns. Childress, the sixth pick in the 2004 draft from Stanford, is a 6-foot-8 swingman who is a quality defender and averaged 11.1 points over four seasons with Atlanta, shooting 52.2 percent from the field and 36 percent on 3-pointers

Turkoglu is represented by Lon Babby, who league sources have said will be the next leader of the Suns' basketball operations, perhaps as a president. Until recently, Childress was represented by Babby's agency before he switched to Octagon.

With word of Babby coming aboard, San Antonio Assistant General Manager Dennis Lindsey withdrew his name from consideration after being an early front-runner for the general-manager role.
