Did not like Jerrels play at the point.

He's not much of a playmaker for anyone else. He patterns his game after Kobe Bryant. In other words he likes to take long jumpers regardless of how many guys are defending him.

It's clear that Gist's time in Russia has helped his development. He is more polished on defense, in setting screens, and rebounding position and in his traps. He has played the 4 the whole game. He's not being called on to score. He is doing better than what some of you guys are giving him credit for, or the lack thereof.

I still have yet to hear anyone clarify what it is he's doing wrong. He's always been good as a 4 or a 5. Last year he struggled trying to play the 3 and his shooting was bad.

Blair did not play, unconfirmed reports have said that he hurt his knee in practice.

Temple went down with an ankle roll / sprain. He didn't appear to be in TOO much pain, but was helped off the court. Time will tell.

Gist also seemed to tweak an ankle / knee, but stayed on the court for a short period before being called to the bench. Didn't notice if he ever made it back out because work beckoned.

Sounds like Pop believes Temple will not only make the team, but actually get some real playing time and if that's the case I don't want him to play Vegas.

Blair's dumb ass shouldn't be in Vegas either. You can practice a 10-15 ft jumper away from contact and competition. So glad he didn't play today.

I wish Richards was in Vegas though. That guy has loads of potential and it would be cool to see what he can do now against near NBA-level competition.

Solid D

The Wolves didn't have a lot of size but the Spurs team was basically an experienced D League team that out-executed a less seasoned group. I do think that if a team that plays like Memphis... a scrambling, pressing team...were to play this Spurs' team, it might be a different outcome. This Spurs team doesn't have very many good ball-handlers.

I still think Temple ends up as Tony's backup this year.

Manu and Hill hold down the two guard, with the Spurs going big with those two off the bench (let Anderson start maybe?).

That essentially sets us at everywhere but the three...

I like the idea of Hill and Temple playing together. I agree that Temple is probably better at the PG position and is probably a better distributor. With that said we can have Temple with the PG duties and Hill play more like a 2-guard. On D we can have Temple guard the bigger guards while Hill remains on the smaller ones. Could be interesting to see.

Assuming they can build their chemistry together, I see us going with Tony and Hill as the starters with Temple and Manu backing them up.

That could definitely be the case. I'm just curious how it will all shake out. A few things don't really add up to me. Lets say we have a 10 man rotation during the regular season:

Starters: Parker, Hill, Jefferson, Splitter, Duncan
Backups: Temple, Ginobili, Anderson, Blair, McDyess

That would be my assumption of a regular season 10 man rotation. But that doesn't take into account a few things:

1) Are we signing another SF? Where does he fit in the mix?
2) Bonner just inked a big long extension. Where does he fit?
3) All this talk about Hairston...where does his time come from?
4) If a player like Gary Neal impresses in Summer League then where would he fit?

Now, of course some of these guys are going to be injury depth only or garbage time players. And I'm sure Duncan and McDyess will sit out a fair amount of games to stay fresh as well (which should open up some time for Bonner). But I can't forsee getting PT for all the guys we're hoping for.

I suspect the backup SF we find with our 2.4 million left after Splitter's signing will be RJ's backup. Anderson becomes a situational guy / scoring sparkplug off the bench when the O goes stagnant.
