View Full Version : Tecate vs. Dos Equis

I love both of them. I really do.

I usually end up drinking Dos Equis since I prefer beer in a bottle and Tecate in a bottle is alot less common.

However, this weekend I had the opportunity to compare both of them, side by side, in a bottle. I took a sip of one, and then the other right after. The verdict?

I actually though the Tecate had a better taste. It was smoother, and had a better aftertaste. Still, they are both fine beers.

Next Challenge should be Sol vs Pacifico....

When you live as far south as I do no Mexican beer is uncommon. Progresso. :elephant

Tecate is very common. Just not in a bottle. Most places in San Antonio just have in a can.

In my opinion, Pacifico would win that one easily.

Corona is the worst of the Mexican beers. At least of the Mexican beers that are sold here.

Also, try Bohemia. Good stuff.

Bohemia is THE BEST!

But to go back to the original question, Dos XX in the dark bottle. I don't like Dos XX in the green one.

maybe that's why it needed lime? :lol

i might try bohemia. thanks. :smokin

Modelo Especial in a bottle.......definitely the best.
I would then go for Pacifico and then Tecate would be 3rd followed by Dos Equis and finally Corona.

I would take all of the above over Bud anytime.

They sell Corona de Barril in Mexico. It is in a brown bottle. They serve them up ice cold and are great. Regular Corona is crap, now that I tried Dos XX. You need to dress the Corona in order for to taste good. :(

Only problem with Bohemia and Modelo they are not that easy to find in stores. Modelo you can find it in cans.

The most popular (consumed) beer in Mexico for the las 5-7 years is Sol. As far as the worst mex beer, I would have to go with Carta Blanca a.k.a Caca blanca...

Pacifico, Sol, Tecate in that order for me....

BINGO!

I like Dos X and Tecate, but really nothing comes close to a cold Modelo and big platter of Tex-Mex.

Bohemia is the best in my opinion..followed closely by Negra Modelo, a near third is Pacifico , next in fourth is Tecate, followed by Dos Equis Lager. Those to avoid, piss beer #1.. Corona.. piss beer #2 Carta Blanca. To those who drink these sad representations of a real Mexican beer, I feel for ya.

My #1 Mexican beer has to be Dos XX (in the green bottle). Sol is OK. Tecate tastes like water, and Corona is overrated. Modelo Especial is good, but I can only find it in cans. I like Negro Modelo better though, and thankfully I can only find it in bottles. I can't stand Bohemia or Pacifico.

Still... I usually just make my life easy and buy Guinness (or MGD if I'm broke). As much as I like Dos XX, it's no Guinness.

Anybody ever tried Christmas Beer? I'm sure that's not the name of it but that's what they called it when I was in Germany, they sold it around the holidays. In fact I think I saw some of it at HEB this past holiday season but I can't be sure.

I think Patrón is the most overrated tequila I've ever had. It's expensive as hell, and I don't think Mexicans actually drink it. Even El Jimador beats Patrón IMO, and El Jimador is ridiculously cheap in Mexico. Herradurra, El Conquistador, and Don Julio Añejos all put Patrón to shame IMO, and they're all the price of Patrón or less.

So what mexican beer should I be asking for? In Australia the only mexican beer I have seen that I can remember is Corona, of course only ever drink it with lemon/lime. It's ok, nothing great though.

So I should be asking around to see if anywhere has Dos Equis huh?

You have stumbled upon a beer drinking secret. If you have to drink a beer that you don't like, add lime and salt and it becomes passable.

I discovered that with Pearl once. It doesn't have to be Mexican beer to add lime and salt.

an anejo should taste better because it is aged at least a year. patron silver is not an anejo tequila. patron makes a reposado and a anejo.

and what isn't cheap in mexico! haha

El Jimador went the cheap route because it is no longer 100% agave. It is now a blend. Corralejo seems to be the most popular (consumed) tequila right now, well at least within my circle of acquantences (SP). I prefer don Julio. Also Don Porfidio Anejo is very good, but freaking expensive.

To whomever brought up the Christmas beer, I think the name of it is Nochebuena.

OK, got to go call my AA councelor now...

you know, after a few shots of tequila, or a few bottles of brew....can you still taste it?

seriously, cuz, i'm not much of a drinking connoisseur and i don't normally drink dark beers, i've never drank guiness, that paintball in the can thing is intimidating....

and when i drank shiner the other day, by the third glass? it was pretty smooth.

and i know if i'm on my 3rd texas tea or tequila sunrise, it's all the same by that time...

are you a sipper? cuz i drink anything like it's water. well, maybe i'll sip coffee. but that's it, damn it.

in puerto rico? the had medalla. the ll is like a j sound though. good stuff.

i think i fall in love with whatever beer is available when i'm not at home.

I'm late joining in this thread......but here's my two cents.

in the Tecate vs. Dos XX contest I'll have to go with Dos Equis.... of course I've never had Tecate in a bottle, only in a can.

as far as my Fav. Mexican beers go
Sol
Modelo
Dos XX

in that order.
I don;t even count Corona as beer. It;'s colored water.

We did, but that place was stocked more than a damn bar after the series of GTGs.

I like Dos XX, Modelo, and Tecate. Corona is shit as far as I'm concerned.

However, I prefer darker beers most of the time. Shiner is still a hell of a beer especially when you consider the price. Warstiener is awesome as well.

Tequila? Give me Sauza. I've had Patron and it does down well, but I can get a bottle of Sauza for half the price thats twice as big. If I'm in the mood to have smooth liqour, I'll opt for Grey Goose.
