Friend of mine, Getty Mattingsley, that i used to play tournaments around town with a few years back has recently moved out to Vegas to start playing professionally.

So far this year in the WSOP he has cashed over $46,000.

Just heard recently that he is now in the money at this years Main Event with a chip stack of around 645k, (average stack is 400k at this point).

Guaranteed $24,000 at this point, and will go up from there. Figured you guys would want a home town boy to root for should he make it to the TV.

Still in it, going into day 6. 205 people left, he is sitting about average stack with 1.1m chips.

Guaranteed a little over $48,000 payout at this point.

I think they should play down to the final table today, i could be wrong though, i guess.

I've played with him. He's a smart player. Hope he continues to cash, he definitely found his calling in poker. Keep us updated.

Just looked at he's 73/205. Very impressive. He's probably earned himself a little tv time.

Yea, if you have played poker in SA at all...you probably have seen him around.

Back when i was more active, we would often be at the same tourny's. Never for this kind of money obviously, but was fun, none the less.

Yeah, I've played with him several times. It's great to see someone from these games thriving at WSOP. He's currently 84/131. He's already guaranteed $57,102. Pretty damn awesome.

Ask him if he's ran into Heath Ledger, he's on a heater you know?

I hate those bitches that wear sunglasses at the table. That, and biker gloves.

Getty was by far the best player I played with in San Antonio. Glad to see he's doing well! I remember when he was just starting to crush the Stars 180 man tourneys.

Yep, was wondering if you had ever played with him. I didn't play enough to see you at the same time as him, and when Getty started getting going, i started playing less and less.

He is a really good tourny player. Any time i made a final table (of course many times i didnt), he was at it, with a sizable stack. You could almost guarantee he cashed, at least.

Glad to see him doing well also. According to a few sites, he has made over 100k in live tournies this year. Not too bad. I think he only gets better from there, if history is any indication.

I didn't play all that many times with him (I didn't really play very often at SA games - I was always leery of shady shit going down) but I do remember talking to him on AIM a bit and I remember he used to be a 2p2er as well. The SA games were (probably still are) filled with people who were fairly terrible and I remember being impressed that he actually knew what he was talking about when I spoke with him.

Wow, 100k in live tournies for this year is pretty damn good (not as good as a Heath Ledger heater, LDO). I hope thats with variance giving him a few kicks in the nuts.

Props to Getty!

Yep, i was always amazed that some of the most active players (ones at every single tourny offered) were some of the worst players. Definitely doesn't lend much to Pavlov's theory, :downspin: but if you could play solid ABC tournament poker, it almost always assured a cash and/or win...provided you could avoid the bad beats.
