NEW YORK -- In response to NBA commissioner David Stern's assertion that the league lost $370 million last season, the head of the players' union claimed Wednesday that Stern's numbers are as much as $370 million off base.

Union director Billy Hunter made that statement in a telephone interview with ESPN.com, saying the commissioner's assertion of the severity of the owners' financial woes "just doesn't hold water."

We'll see if the players are better prepared this time around. IMO they are shockingly overpaid right now relative to the money they bring in.

David Stern lying about profits for his own gain? Unimaginable.

And we wonder how in the world Pau Gasol got traded to LA for Kwame Brown. That trade alone probably made more personal money for Stern that the totality of Gasol's and Bryant's contracts combined.

This guy is running a monopoly, and has been for decades. Our President should stop sniffing around on Wall Street for white collar crooks, and venture over to the NBA offices sometime. It might be an enlightening experience for him.

"we made 40 million in 2009 and made 30 million in 2010. We lost ten million dollars."
