View Full Version : I keep thinking about the '03 title run.

The similarities to '03 so far have been strikingly similar.
In the first round of '03 the Spurs played a game, young Phoenix team that tested the Spurs mettle. San Antonio lost the first game of the post season that year and were tested well.
In round two, the Spurs went up on LA 2-0 only to travel to Los Angeles and lose two on the road, one game by an embarrassing 15 points.
In that series the Spurs came back to San Antonio for game 5 and won a tough 2-point game in which Robert Horry missed a 3-pointer at the end of the game.
San Antonio went on to blow out the Lakers in Game 6 and take the series.
This year the Spurs have beaten a tough, young first round opponent, and so far in the second round all games have been won by the home team. The Sonics are not as good as the Lakers of '03, and I thoroughly expect the Spurs to win tonight.
It shouldn't be a 2 point nail-biter, but I expect the score to be pretty close. Spurs 95-90.

Now's the part where the Spurs dig deep and pull out a W. Good post EHJ. It took the Sonics having the game of their lives to blow out the Spurs, no way they do that two more times.

Spurs need to jump on them from the opening tip and never look back.
I want a repeat of Game 5 against the Lakers in 03 where they were up 25 pts, but w/o the LA comeback where Horry just missed winning the game at the buzzer with that 3 pointer.
Take no prisoners, give no quarter!!!

I guess I really need to finding your posts and reading them first! Great minds think alike??? Either that or we've both spent too much time taking hits off the nitrous oxide tanks.

Just fucking with you man, it is that i have so many thoughts and posts that it is almost impossible for you to say anything that I have not already said at some point in my 21,000 posts.
I read all of your posts too, as they are always good, so I know when you happened to repeat one of mine. :angel

Yeah, like the one where the Spurs played crappy as hell, still should have won in LA but ended up losing by one point at the end of the game.
I remember them blowing one game, but the Lakers also took that game rather than us just giving it away. Game 3 this series...not so much. The sonics couldn't take anything away from the spurs without the same sort of strange misalignment of the planets that occurred Sunday.

Something else oddly familiar.....I'll be sitting in almost, if not the, exact same seats that Kori, LJ, Kris & I sat in for that game 5 v. the Lakers....where Horry's shot rimmed out.
Weird, too....I'd promised User & my son our good seats (where I usually sit with my daughter) before game 2 was even over with.... :wow

no energy sensed in game four from the Spurs in the second half.
I hope they change the momentum; the SBC crowd should help.

Dear God, I was at that game. You want to talk about NERVOUS!?!?! It seemed like that ball popped in and out about 37 times before DRob finally pulled down the rebound and the clock ran out.
I hope it doesn't come down to something like that tonight.

Yeah they are similar, I was thinking the same. When I was in nba:1 chat on yahoo, people were doubting the Spurs and saying they weren't shit. I just told them Remember 03 when the Spurs lost to the Suns at home and won the series and went on to win the Championship :).
