View Full Version : Chris Paul wants out of New Orleans before start of the season

When Paul was quoted a few weeks ago as saying he'd be open to a trade if the Hornets (http://spurstalk.com/nba/teams/page/NO/new-orleanshornets) aren't committed to building a championship team, it was only a small hint as to the size of the chasm that exists between the franchise and its cornerstone player. Paul, in fact, has put into motion an aggressive exit strategy that will accelerate in the coming weeks, and his clear intention is to be traded before the start of the 2010-11 season, a person with direct knowledge of his plans told CBSSports.com Wednesday.

"He wants out," said the person, who has been briefed on Paul's strategy but spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss it publicly. "He wants to play with another superstar. He wants to follow LeBron's model of teaming up with other great players."
Paul's list of preferred destinations consists of the Knicks, Magic and Lakers, and members of his inner circle already have sent word to the Hornets of his desire to be traded to one of those teams, sources say. If Paul has his way, he's played his last game in a Hornets jersey

orlando? carters's huge expiring and who else? 1 first rounders and what else? they wont like nelson cause they already have collison
knicks? dont think they have many draft picks left, do they have cap room? they can take in more salary than giving out making is a finacially good trade for the hornets, but as far as talent its who? chandler, or gallinari, and tony douglass?
lakers- odom, future first rounders and vujacics contract and caracter? doubt they take bynum and other stuff, or the lakers would do it too

sounds like cp3 is stuck

First, he says that he likes the direction the Hornets are taking, then he changes his mind a few days later and says that he wants to be traded, according to CBS Sports.

I'm as pissed off as anybody since I was one the several people who prematurely ejaculated over the DUST chip, before the Mavs got next to nothing but a backup center and more future promises for it basically. But I don't think the Mavs could have gotten Paul with it mainly because I don't think the Hornets would have wanted Roddy since they already have 6'0 Collison and 6'2 Thornton as young prospects.

If its true he should forget his "list" quick.

IF NO accept they will demand to trade Okafor+Posey with him. So the other team need to send around 27 mio salary.

Hornets want probably around 20 mio expirings and CHEAP talent.

Magic: Carter, Gortat, Bass? The Hornets do not want contracts like Gortat and Bass for a rebuild.

Lakers? Bynum, Odom, Vujabitch are not good for rebuilding and have sucking contracts for a total rebuild team

Knicks? Amare and Felton out, they need to trade like everyone else...

BS "wish list" if its true. Hornets wont be so stupid

Hey Demps is the GM in NO now. He's a Spurs guy. If we need to unload Parker because he thinks he wants out, think he might do us a good'un?

Paul is under contract for 2 more years; he'd have Manu and TD to play with. That's much more competitive than what he has now, so he'd be happier. It would put the Spurs on a path to blowing all their big contracts up simultaneously...

Paul for Parker, Andersen, 2011 and 2013 1st round picks?

We don't need a starting PG for Paul. We already have Collison. Acquiring Parker won't fill any real holes on the team like SF or center.

Yeah, I've heard that from Hornets fans before. However, what with Paul having a "short list" of teams he wants to force a trade to, getting stuff back for him becomes difficult. SAS isn't on his short list, but it is one of the few places he can go to a) compete immediately, and b) have a decent chance of being the "man" in the future... Which is apparently what he really wants. As far as NOH is concerned, above is, I would suggest, more value than they could get from any of his "short list" destinations. It kind of puts your team in a hard place when your best player is agitating to get out like this.

21_Blessings
07-22-2010, 11:16 AM
Chris Paul's "short list" doesn't mean much of anything unless he has no trade clause (veto power) or an opt out. Which I don't think he does.

Yes. He will always be beloved in Dallas and have a home with Mavericks long after his playing career. He's had a great career and can basically have any job with the organization once his playing days are down. He's far surpassed any expectations when he came to the league. Ten or eleven 50 win seasons in a row, a MVP, a Finals appearance.

They have $30mil+ of expirings, plus some picks. Only downside is younger talent. All they have is Ty Lawson, which is pointless for the Hornets. JR would get run out of town and Nene is probably too much for the Nuggets coz he is their only decent big man......

Paul To Issue Formal Trade Request Monday: (http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/68350/20100725/paul_to_issue_formal_trade_request_monday/)

Chris Paul has yet to formally request that the Hornets trade him, but will do so during a scheduled meeting on Monday, according to a source. The meeting will include new general manager Dell Demps and new coach Monty Williams.
New Orleans president Hugh Weber has maintained throughout the ordeal that the team has no plans to trade Paul.
However, Paul's agent, Leon Rose, continues to gauge interest from teams regarding his client.
Despite rumors to the contrary, Paul's camp claims that no leading destinations have been established.
