Anybody gonna put a few cold ones back tonight? Any wine connoisseurs in the house?

I am going to. I enjoy a good wine and know a little but would not call myself a connoisseur.

I will have my children in-tow, so my beverage of choice will be either a nice, chilled bottle of WATER....or a refreshingly cold, over CO'2 Diet Coke from the fountains of the SBC.

kskonn, I just got back from a little getaway to Rio Grande do Sul (southernmost State in Brazil) and toured some nice vineyards near Bento Gonçalves (Vale dos Vinhedos). I've got some good Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Chardonnays to work on. Very, very good quality wines! But to answer my own question, I've got some serious training tonight and since its a Tuesday I'll probably go light. Maybe a couple glasses of Pinot Noir.

LOL! Just answered this on another thread...

Guinness and Tecate are my Spurs drinks of choice.

What is a good but inexpensive Merlot?

Brodels
05-17-2005, 02:42 PM
I'll be going to a bar to watch the game as usual, so I'll be enjoying some spirits. I usually start with a good local microbrew on special, then I'll have something else local, then I'll finish up with two Miller Lites or some other cheap beer.

Unfortunately, the bar I frequent closed last night and will remain closed for about three weeks while they move to a new location. I'll have to find a new place to watch the game tonight, and I'll have to compete with a Red Sox west-coast late game.

I might need to change my routine tonight though. It hasn't been working.

Skol is the best selling beer brand in Brazil, and this country of 180 million loves beer. Brazilians drink their beer ice cold. If a beer is served just cold, its usually thrown out. Aaah, nothing like it. And, yes, that model is hot. Dime a dozen in Sao Paulo and on down south, no kidding. And for all you single dudes, my city, Uberlandia, pop. 750,000, has an absurd ratio of around 4-5 women to every man. Amazing.

GrandeDavid

Jekka, they're hard to find right now, but not for much longer. Its a maturing industry down here and Brazilian wines have done well in Brazil, South America, Japan and Europe. Very soon will be going to the U.S. The problem is that as a rule of thumb they are slightly more expensive than Argentinian and Chilean wines and without country brand recognition, it'd be a tough sell in the U.S. Now that costs are going down somewhat, I hear that soon they'll be cracking the U.S. market.

Brazil has good beers, but their wines are just awful. And not because some kind of Argentina vs. Brazil rivalry, just because they don't have the weather and the soil to cultivate grapes. Most of the wine consumed in Brazil comes from Argentina or Chile.

From Brazil you should try the beers, and "caipirinha", a kick-ass coctel. :drunk

I can't imagine French grapes yielding top wines at that latitude. Too hot.
